Winning At The Meadows In August 2008
Vic Peters Classic Final next Saturday night looks like being a wide open affair after some fantastic performances in the semi finals last Saturday.

The first heat was an exciting race when the favourite Nitro Burst took the early lead and opened up a strong break down the back. Fellow Victorian Tenacious Ted got clear and chased after the leader but had to be content with second and a place in the final. Nitro Burst cruised down to the line an easy winner by four lengths.

It had been a big night for his trainer who was in Melbourne at the Meadows winning the Top Gun with El Galo.

Time recorded by Nitro Burst was the best of the semi finals 29.96 after sections of 5.55 and 13.98. After drawing box one in the final he should start favourite again.

Heat two saw Perfect Molly lead for a fair bit of the race until came from fourth early to sweep pass the leader he held off the fast finishing Snozz in the run to the post to win in 30.29. The win was his third on the track and his 11th over all from 20 starts.

Heat three was a rough house affair Jayden's Rocket was the early leader from Intelligence but as the runners approached the home turn loomed up as the winner however he went for a run that wasn't there and disrupted a major part of the field.

Vavaldi Star got a dream rails run from worst than mid field hit the lead and held on to win from Intelligence in a slow time of 30.50. He became trainer Jason Mackay's second finalist joining his litter brother Snozz in the feature event.

Heat four registered another win for smart youngster Snell To Excell it was his fourth on the trot.

Using his early speed to advantage he cleared out at the first turn to lead all the way in an impressive 30.13. Wonderous chased home hard to go down by a solid four and a half lengths but the effort was full of merit and she will have her supporters next week from a box two draw.

There will be plenty of support for a number of finalists on Saturday night in what should prove an interesting race. Nitro Burst should start the popular elect from box one and he could be Jason Thompson's second one winner in less than a week.
