Victorian Trainers Dominate Summer Cup Final

Leading Victorian trainers and Robert Britton have the top fancies for Saturday's $25,000 to the winner final. Bate won the two heats last Saturday with and Whitfield Bale.

Amity Bale has earned the mantle as the nation's top stayer and as a short priced favourite won her heat as expected in a very slick 42.12 chasing down the early leader Salvatore which stared 6-1 behind the 2/5 favourite. The others were no match for Bate's champion stayer. “She simply breaks their hearts, “Bate said.

Bate was pleased with Whitfield Bale's win (he started at 12/1), but said they were in a different class, “no Amity Bale in that race, she simply breaks their hearts,” were his comments.

thought Salvatore could mix it with Bate's champion and was initially disappointed with his fourth after leading. However after the other heat ran 42.60, Castle said the run of his greyhound was not so bad but “Amity Bale is so good and she will be so hard to beat.”

Robert Britton was very pleased with Melandri which was impressive in coming from last early to run Amity Bale to 4 ½ lengths in such quick time.

gives Bate and his leading owner their third finalist after the greyhound finished third behind Amity Bale, without every threatening.

Tifi pleased trainer Chris O'rien, leading most of the race to go under by ½ length behind Whitfield Bale in a race which saw the promising young stayer Forty Twenty return to to finish third in this race, a week after resuming from a spell with an impressive 618 metres win.

Forty Twenty started 2/1 second favourite behind the promising Reign Over Me which finished a disappointing sixth from box 1 at 5/4 for owner trainer Michael Cope.

If rival trainers were wondering if Amity Bale's recent assignments had affected her in any way, Bate said his champion little stayer had taken no harm from last week' run. “She pulled up absolutely great!” was his reply.

Prior to last week' heat Amity Bale last appearance at Wentworth Park was her decisive win in the Pages Hire 720 metres on October 3. In that race Reign Over Me was the runner up with Melandri third.

This Saturday's meeting at Wentworth Park each year also features the GBOTA' annual Bill Baker final. The race now sponsored by “Give Me Five at Stud” sees greyhounds who qualified from heats at various country (Division “C”) tracks competing for the $8000 winner's purse.

Gates open on Saturday at 5.30 pm for the first race at 7.28 pm. Entry is $5.50 adults and children under 18 are free. The Pages Hire is race 8 at 9.50 pm while the Give Me Five At Stud Bill Baker Bull N Barley final is race 6 at 9.07 pm.
