Zipping Maggie Upsets Big Names To Win 2014 Chairman’s Cup
Zipping Maggie announced herself as an emerging staying star on Saturday night when she lowered the colours of Australia's two big guns to take out the Group Three Chairman's Cup for trainer Peter Dapiran.
The 28-month-old daughter of Turanza Bale and Natalie Rass (Malfoy – Al Fresco) left box three in second position and had worked to the front by the time she reached the home straight the first time, which is where she remained.
The 28kg dark brindle front runner carved out a slick 16.06 early and went on to run a personal best of 41.78 in an imperious 5 1/4 length win.
Champion bitch Xylia Allen finished second in the race. After jumping third she appeared to have a reasonable run in transit and, despite working to second off the back, she simply could not reel in the leader.
Triple Group One winner Sweet It Is filled third placing after coming from well back. She was slowly away and found herself some 25 lengths off the lead down the back straight, a margin she was unable to make up.
The victory was the 11th in Zipping Maggie's 21 start career and pushes her earnings beyond $73,000.
