Bathurst To Be First NSW Track To Race With Finish On Lure

The NSW has given approval to the to stage a TAB meeting on Wednesday 4th February 2009 under the NZ finish-on format.

All races on that program will finish-on to the lure and it is also to be noted that the Final of the 1-4 win series on February 11 will also be held under the same format.

The meeting will be the first ever in NSW under the alternative race finish format and comes after two successful trial periods which commenced on May 1 2008.

The progressive club broke new ground in being the first club in NSW to trial under the NZ finish-on format and whilst support for the NZ concept was luke-warm initially, it has been gradually gaining ever since.

Many other clubs in NSW are now set to follow suit and implement NZ finish-on trials as well as a couple in South Australia.

Queensland who also began trialling the NZ lures in September have already gone the next step and implemented the finish-ons at all Albion Park race meetings from January 1st 2009.

Recent internet surveys in three states have gleaned almost identical results with 75% of on-line pollers in favour of the NZ style finish as opposed to 25% against.

In fact our own Australian Racing Greyhound Poll provided similar results with 70% of respondants voting in of the lure being used at all greyhound tracks, 8% of readers thought only at TAB tracks and 2% only at tracks. The end result being 80% of our readers where in favour of implementing the finish lure.
