Betting shifts as Zinfandel Trace & Raider’s Guide gain support

Betting markets on the 2024 National Distance Championship final have been tumultuous for punters with a SA novice stayer and a Tasmanian winning machine receiving support, while Australia’s best stayer is on the drift.

With the $85,000 to-the-winner National Distance Championship final now only two days away from being run at on Saturday night, two greyhounds have received plenty of support from punters.

Novice staying greyhound and SA National Distance Champion, Zinfandel Trace, has been backed in from +1400 to +900 at Australia’s best greyhound betting sites .

Zinfandel Trace, who has only had 10 career race starts total, made her staying debut when she won the over 730 metres at Angle Park in 43.10.

Youngster Zinfandel Trace leads almost all the way to bolt in and win the 2024 SA National Distance Championship Final at Angle Park in her staying debut in 43.10.

While many greyhounds can suffer a second up syndrome after their first staying run, trainer Gavin Harris elected to then trial Zinfandel Trace to remove that possibility from the equation.

Far from ‘knocking up’ from the first 730 metre attempt, Zinfandel Trace improved her time down to 42.85, albeit under solo race conditions.

Greyhound punters and online bookmakers alike clearly saw the daughter of Barcia Bale and Zinfandel Zara had far more upside potential in the final than her competitors, with Zinfandel Trace firming in to the +900 quote.

Despite the quality of the opposition, it is likely that double figure quote will firm up again in the run down to race start time.

Another greyhound to find support is the Tasmanian winning machine, Raider’s Guide.

Raider’s Guide easily won the TAS National Distance Championship at Launceston in 42.68.

Raider’s Guide has had just six career starts over the staying trip for four wins, and the 2024 Group 1 winner is no stranger to leading up quality race fields.

While Zinfandel Trace and Raider’s Guide have met with support, arguably Australia’s best stayer, Valpolicella, is on the drift.

The Queensland representative has blown in betting odds from being an outright favourite at +250, to now being a +270 second favourite behind Aunt , who has remained steady.

Those greyhound betting changes have necessitated other moves with the odds on the top Australian greyhound betting apps.

Zipping Neutron has drifted from +1400 to +1500.

WA representative West On Boonie has drifted from +380 to +500.
