2015 Group 1 Maturity Classic – free tips and betting preview

CHAMPION sprinter Fernando Bale will be aiming to bounce back from his last start defeat when he jumps from box two in Saturday night's Maturity Classic at The Meadows.

The son of Kelsos Fusileer and Chloe Allen went down narrowly in his semi-final to Kelly Bravo's Secret Spell, ending his 16 race winning streak, but with an inside draw in the final he is expected to win, currently the $1.70 favourite with William Hill.

Kennel mate Dyna Double One is the second elect at $3 and has undoubtably been the star of the series thus far, clocking 29.56 and 29.59 in his heat and semi-final respectively. He will jump from box five in the $100,000-to-the-winner feature.

The only other runner under double figures is Margins, this year's Horsham Cup winner, which is sitting on the $6.50 quote with William Hill. The son of and Gogo Sutro ran second in his semi behind Dyna Double One, but has the distinct advantage of drawing box one in the final.

With the terrific race set to jump at 9:43pm, lets check out the form of each runner to see if we can help you find the winner.

Box One – Margins
Black Dog – 36.8kg – February 2013
Bekim Bale x Gogo Sutro
Prize money: $84,855
Trainer: Brooke Ennis

“Margins turned in a fantastic performance here last week when placed behind Dyna Double One. He gave the leader a big head start but he powered to the line and went down by less than four lengths. I don't think he can win tonight's final but the red draw is a big plus and if he can settle mid field he should be able to run home into some minor money. He could be a great anchor for third and fourth in your exotic bets.”

“Out and Out freak and he was desperately unlucky in his heat. He has average beginners drawn on either side tonight so with an even getaway he should get plenty of room to drive through and he should be in front soon after. There isnt a chaser on the planet who can go with him for the first 400m of a race and he should be winning quite easily. Lets hope he stays sound so he can become the first chaser to crack the million.”

Odds to win the Maturity: $1.70 with William Hill

Box Three – Ivy Bale

Turanza Bale x Penelope Bale

“She has raced well here in recent weeks but she hasnt really delivered on the promise she showed early in her career. Last week she settled just behind the leader and she appeared to have every chance in the run to the line. Tonight she meets an all star lineup and i can't see her making much of an impact.”

Odds to win the Maturity: $41 with William Hill

Box Four – Black Illusion
Black Dog – 34.0kg – January 2013
Collide x My Secret Shiraz
Prize money: $58,860
Trainer: Angela Langton
Career: 43: 13-8-3

T/D Best: 30.10
Career Highlights: WON Bendigo 27.99, The Meadows 30.10, Sandown Park 29.65, 34.49.

“Has won three on the trot with two of those wins being over this track and trip. Last week he had the benefit of the red draw and that was all the difference in his handy heat win. He is taking on some all stars tonight and he will need to shave at least six or seven lengths off his PB here of 30.10.

Odds to win the Maturity: $61 with William Hill

Box Five – Dyna Double One
Black Dog – 34.7kg – March 2013
x Crystin Bale

“Superstar chaser who has been racing in rare form in recent weeks. He has won his past two starts here in sub 29.60 and a repeat of that would see him give Fernando Bale a real scare. The only knock on this bloke is that he can be a tad slow to begin at times and he cant afford to give the favourite too big of a head start. Great winning hope but i think he will have to settle for the quinella spot.”

Odds to win the Maturity: $3 with William Hill

Box Six – Secret Spell
Black Bitch – 28.8kg – January 2013
Batrim Bale x Wicked Witch
Prize money: $142,445
Trainer: Kelly Bravo
Career: 30: 17-2-1
T/D: 9: 7-1-0

Career Highlights: WON 2014 Group 3 Cranbourne Puppy Classic, 2014 GRV VBIS Final, Sandown Park 29.26, The Meadows 29.77, FINALIST 2014 Group 2 Ballarat Cup.

“Very fast chaser on her night and she turned in a great effort last week when she was able to hold out Fernando Bale. From the wider draw she is facing a tough battle and i dont think she will be able to get into contention. She has won seven of nine here, so its hard to knock her but the box draw has gone against her and she hasn't really been running much time here of late.”

Odds to win the Maturity: $10 with William Hill

Box Seven – Hogganaught
Black Dog – 31.9kg – January 2013
Aston Galilee x Prince's Faye
Prize money: $45,645
Trainer: Darren Pattinson
Career: 39: 14-5-5

T/D Best: 30.10
Career Highlights: WON The Meadows 30.10, 30.25, Warragul 26.15, Sandown Park 29.68.

“Member of an in form kennel and he has won five of his past six in explosive style. He doesnt have the brilliance of some of his rivals but he always gives 100% and if he happened to cross he could sneak into a place. Clearly his toughest test and he will need a lot of things to go his way in the run.”

Odds to win the Maturity: $51 with William Hill

Box Eight – Emrys
Black Dog – 31.5kg – January 2013
Magic Sprite x Prancing Uno
Prize money: $70,335
Trainer: Mario Briganti
Career: 34: 12-7-1
T/D: 14: 4-5-1
T/D Best: 29.93
Career Highlights: WON The Meadows 30.16, 29.93, Sandown Park 29.29, 25.71, FINALIST 2015 Group 1 Silver Chief Classic, 2015 Group 1 Australian Cup.

“Very honest chaser and he absolutely roared to the line when scoring here last week in 29.93. There is no doubting he has the talent to be a major player in a race like this but he tends to race best from an inside draw and he is likely to be posted wide for most of the trip. Unlikely to win but he is a must for your exotic bets.”
