Perth Cup Heat One

Astronomize has won three of four over this trip and he is expected to start fairly short in this and win. After a luckless stint in Victoria when contesting the Silver Chief series, he returned here to WA and posted two brilliant victories and one of those was a blistering 27.26. He should roll to the early lead and he should be running sub 30.20 on the bunny.

Cosmic Wise is better than her past three runs suggest and she is a recent finalist in the Melbourne and Sale Cups, she doesn't have the same early zip that Astronomize has but if she can land in second spot she should give the favourite a scare as they approach the line.

Living Proof has been racing well without winning of late and he should get every chance to muster speed in the early stages.

Full Of Beans rounds out the chance, he can ping the lids and he has won 14 of 28 over this journey.

Perth Cup Heat Two

This is a great heat and it looks a match race between the excitement machine Above All and speed demon Starlight Jack. I'm going to give the edge to Above All, he should be suited by the empty draw on his outside and he did have a look at the track here last week when he solo trialled in 30.30. The time wasn't flashy but he would have derived a lot of benefit from that run and with a clear run I would expect him to go sub 30 seconds.

Starlight Jack looks the leader and he has won 10 of 16 over this journey. He has led in five of his past six starts and he does appear to be getting stronger with every run. If Above All lands behind him I dont think he can hold him out but if the favourite makes one small mistake he may just steal the prize.

Xtreme Knocka is suited to a rails draw and he has a slim chance, the concern with him is that he will be having his first look at the track and he is going to need some luck at the first bend.

West On Delly rounds out the chances, she has the speed to test Starlight Jack early and if she crosses she will give a great sight.

Perth Cup Heat Three

Deadly Vane is a gun Victorian chaser and he showed that he has no trouble running out this journey when scoring at Sandown two runs back in a sizzling 29.29. There is very little speed drawn underneath him tonight, so if he can get away cleanly he should drive to the early lead and with the lack of depth in this heat I can't see him being run down.

Musquin Bale is a veteran chaser but he is still going extremely well and if he steps cleanly he will be a major player. He has won here previously in solid time and unlike most of the chasers in this event, he runs out a strong 530m.

Romeo's Comet has scored two great 642m wins here of late and that will have boosted his confidence immensely. If he can getaway cleanly tonight he should be right in the mix as they head for the back straight and he should run a big race.

Perth Cup Heat Four

This is one of the most exciting heats of the night with Quartz Bale and Allen Deed set to do battle. Allen Deed has the perfect draw out wide and with a slow beginner on his outside he should get every chance to settle in the top two as they head into the first bend. He trialled here last week in 30.29 and with Quartz Bale expected to set a cracking pace, that should pave the way for Allen Deed to reel him in and stop the clock in under 30.

Quartz Bale has won nine of ten here and he is going to give a great sight again. He has had around five weeks off and being fresh he should fire out of the boxes and he will be reeling off sensational sectionals. I'm guessing that he may go a little too quick in the middle stages and he may be a sitting duck for Allen Deed as they turn for home.

Free Candy is in great form at present, I dont think she is good enough to go with the top two picks but she can run home into a placing.

Perth Cup Heat Five

Star Recall is all class and she just keeps on winning, she is a faultless beginner and once she hits the ground she goes into overdrive. She recently capture the Sale Cup over 650m but she showed she can still sprint with a strong 30.16 win here last week. She has slow beginners on either side tonight so she should drive to the early lead again and they won't get near her.

Droopy's Bentley is a serious talent and he is perfectly drawn in the pink. He trialled here last week in 30.42 and I'm expecting him to find at least three lengths on that run. Gone To Heaven is likely to move left at box rise, so that should give him the perfect cart across and if Star Recall makes a mistake early he will be off and gone with the prize.

On Coin has been a great chaser for a long time but in his two runs from a spell he appears to be a fair way off his best. From the red he must still be respected and if he can hold them out early he may just find a few lengths on the bunny.

Perth Cup Heat Six

Tureaud is another local star and he should continue the strong representation for Paul Stuart. Three starts back he posted a dazzling 29.72 Meadows victory and on that occasion he posted ridiculous sectionals. Tonight he is second up after a month off and I am expecting him to pounce on the bunny and they won't get near him as he will be running around the 30 flat mark.

All Strung Out has excelled since moving to WA and if he can repeat his 30.21 winning effort from two runs back he will prove hard to hold out. He isn't the best of beginners but from the pink he should get plenty of room to muster speed in the run to the first time.

Whodat Knockin' has the good draw and he is a classy Victorian, I think he may get burnt off early but he should rail through into a prominent position mid race and he should take home some minor money.

Perth Cup Heat Seven

Last chance to qualify and it should be another match race between two absolute stars in Dyna Double One and My Bro Fabio. I'm giving the edge to Dyne Double One, I think he is potentially the fastest chaser on the planet and he does it at both ends. He trialled here last week in a solid 30.35 but I'm expecting him to find the bunny early tonight and I believe a sub 29.90 run is definitely on the cards.

My Bro Fabio scored a commanding 29.27 Sandown win last time after coming from last, in that event he got to the outside and was pretty much untouched for most of the journey and he just proved too strong. Tonight he is going to be giving Dyna Double One a big head start and I dont think he will be able to reel him in, so the quinella spot looks likely. This is probably going to be the fastest heat so if he can get close to Dyna Double One he should do enough to grab the eighth and final spot in the final.

Burundi has the good draw and he can maybe sneak into third place.

Galaxy Heat One

Great lineup and although Space Star is poorly drawn I think he should be good enough to win after overcoming some early difficulties. Last week he trialled over the 642m journey and he posted a blistering 37.09. The speed appears to be drawn out wide in this event so if he can step on terms he should be able to drive through and hold them out in the run to the first turn and if he does lead they won't get near him.

Takahashi is an enormous talent and she has won eight of 11 over this journey. She should have enough speed to settle in the top two and if she is close to Space Star as they pass the post the first time she will definitely give him something to think about.

Expect A Guess is a classy local and she has the speed to lead, I dont think she can hold out the top picks but she can hold on for a place.

Blinker's On must be respected, he has loads of talent but he can find bother in his races, if he stays out of trouble he will take a power of beating.

Top Four: 1 – 7 – 2 – 4

Galaxy Heat Two

Lady Toy has recently joined the powerful Ennis kennel and she has found a leg. Her effort to score at Sandown last time in 34.13 was super impressive and she is obviously better suited to this journey. The empty draw underneath will definitely suit and with some luck in running she should get the cash.

Ash Flash is ideally drawn out wide and she has a wonderful record over this journey. She showed she is at peak fitness and form with a brilliant 41.83 win here last time and with an even getaway she should be right in the mix.

My Mate Cobber will set the pace and he is getting stronger with every run, he has posted two impressive sub 42 second wins here of late and if the fancied runners happen to find bother he may just steal the prize.

Starc is a classy stayer in his own right and it took a monster effort from Space Star to reel him in last time out at . If he handles the track at his first look he should run a great race.

Top Four: 6 – 8 – 1 – 2
