2016 Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup: free tips and betting preview
THE first Group race of 2016 will be won and run on New Year's Day with the Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup (515 metres) being conducted on the NSW Central Coast.
Four qualifiers were run last Sunday and saw a couple of blistering performances turned in, with time honours narrowly snared by Cash In Motion which clocked a blistering 29.39. The daughter of Smooth Fancy and Teddy's Jackpot won the Group 3 Ipswich Gold Cup earlier this year and is back to her brilliant best at precisely the right time after a couple of unplaced runs at Albion Park.
Also scoring an emphatic victory in the heats was Gayle Masterson's Knight Sprite which ran a nearly identical 29.40 over the 515 metre sprint. The black speedster will have to live up to his most recent run and overcome box seven if he is to feature in the $40,000-to-the-winner final.
The other two heat winners were Eva Diva (Fear Zafonic x Romantic Diva), which kept her unblemished record of four from four at Gosford intact when leading all the way in a slick 29.70, while Head Shy took out the remaining qualifier. The son of Head Bound and Poppy's Secret got a saloon passage along the fence after a steady get away and finished a little too well for the Jason Mackay trained Black Frenzy which will looking to redeem himself in the final from box four.
The Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup is race eight on the card and is set to jump at 9:39pm AEDT.
