2016 Group 3 Wentworth Park Gold Cup – free tips & betting

A top field of stayers will assemble at Wentworth Park on Saturday night to contest the Group 3 Wentworth Park Gold Cup (720m) in the Harbour City.

1 Association Cup winner Lioness Lulu is the $2 favourite with online bookmaker Crownbet.com.au following on from her dominant 42.24 heat win last weekend. The fawn bitch was quick to begin on that occasion, sprinting straight to the early lead and kicking on strongly to score by three and a half lengths over Young Gun and Nureyev.

Sandave Sapphire is the $5 second elect with bookmakers despite only managing a third placing in her heat on Saturday. The daughter of Miagi and Stately Sapphire was only fair to begin from box two and found interference before working home nicely to finish to finish three lengths off the winner, Tizza Nitro, in 42.55. Prior to that start she had won four of her past six over the track and trip, including a 42.47 personal best which would see her right in contention for this race.

Sandave Sapphire will be the leading local chance heading into the $25,000 to the winner final, with the Dave Richardson-trained bitch aiming to become the first NSW-prepared sprinter to win the Gold Cup since Slick Lee in 2012.

Tizza Nitro is the third elect at $6.50 with William Hill, with Phantom Reign, which ran third in the Group 1 Association Cup behind Lioness Lulu, the next best in the market at $10.

The Group 3 Wentworth Park Gold Cup is race six on the card this Saturday night and is set to jump at 9:20pm.

“Middle distance runner which stepped up to the 700 for the first time in last week's heat. Got tired towards the end of the race, but he should improve on his finish in his next few starts. Could be a handy stayer in the future, but prepared to risk second up after a tough run last week.”

“Has been racing in sensational style recently with four wins from her last seven starts over the track and trip. Missed the kick but worked home well to finish third in her heat last week. Will need to step better to be a winning chance here, but if she does everything right at the start she should be the main danger to the favourite.”

“Unbeaten in Sydney with three from three and a personal best of 42.09. Well drawn in box eight and if she can show the same dash she has at her past two starts she should be leading comfortably at the post on the first occasion and it is hard to see her getting run down out in front.”
