Group 1 National Futurity 2025 runner-by-runner guide | 18/1/25
This Saturday night at Wentworth Park the Group 1 National Futurity will be run and won and another great greyhound will enter the realms of Group 1 immortality. It is one of the biggest races on the calendar for the female greyhounds, who will almost certainly become blue-blooded breeding royalty at the end of their racing career.
The following is a runner-by-runner National Futurity preview of the big race.

Can Taormina win the Natinoal Futurity?
![]() |
1 Taormina
|
Taormina has only had four career starts and was mixing it with the big girls last start, when she led and gave everything she had when run down by Sooty Keeping. With her consistent first sectionals, she looks the leader in the final again and will have Screaming Violet running cover in the middle of the track. She has been improving with every run at the 520m and if she is in front and they mix-up behind her, there might be a genuine value chance with the top greyhound bookmakers.
Can Zipping Serano win the Natinoal Futurity?

2 Zipping Serrano
T: Melinda FinnF: 14851Career: 15: 6-0-1Prizemoney: $19,100
|
Zipping Serrano began better than usual and used box two to perfection in her heat. She will get the rails again early, right behind Taormina and will need to hold them through the first turn. She didn’t finish right it off and run as fast as you would have liked in the heats, but the Kennel has the extraordinary knack of getting their dogs up in these big finals and so is a double-figured chance that is not without a knockout hope.
Can Laura Keeping win the Natinoal Futurity?
![]() |
Laura Keping did everything asked of her in the heats, working extremely hard to get across to the fence behind Screaming Violet from a tough draw out in box eight and then out railed Screaming Violet before stamping her authority on the heat in the latter stages. Her time was the second fastest of the heats and now being drawn much closer to the rails will be a massive advantage. She will have Screaming Violet heading up the track to give her a heap of early room and if she gets across the inside two dogs will be the greyhound to beat in this final.
Can Screaming Violet win the Natinoal Futurity?
![]() |
4 Screaming Violet
T: Gregory Sutherland F: 33113Career: 32: 14-3-5Prizemoney: $37,970
|
Screaming Violet is blessed with untold early pace, which is usually a good thing, but she loves to head to the middle of the track to use that pace, which often hurts her. She led easily in her heat but drifted up the track and was out railed and weakened out to finish third. She will definitely be in the firing line to lead here but will be a bigger stumbling block for those outside her wanting to lead. A win would surprise at massive odds with .
Can My Monroe win the Natinoal Futurity?
![]() |
5 My Monroe
|
My Monroe did everything right in her heat, leading easily and only just getting run down by Zipping Serrano. She would need to improve on her 29.92 personal best if she were to worry these, but the biggest problem is she will have a face full of Screaming Violet in the early stages and that might cost her any chance of winning this Group 1. She is another that will start at big odds.
Can Ziping Mayer win the Natinoal Futurity?
![]() |
6 Zipping Mayer
T: Melinda FinnF: 51233Career: 19: 5-4-3Prizemoney: $26,100
|
The second of the Finn runners and also the roughie of the field. Zipping Mayer just gives up too much of a start at box rise and while talented, will struggle to give these dogs a start and a beating. She ran on well in her heat from miles back to get third and qualify for the final, but if she features in the finish, it would be a big surprise and due to a big mix-up.
Can Peloponnese win the National Futurity?
![]() |
7 Peloponnese
T: Jodie LordF: 31312Career: 24: 7-3-7Prizemoney: $27,450
|
The second Lord runner, Peloponnese, was an eye-catching run in her heat after not being able to muster quickly from box one, she shoved along the fence to grab the tail of Laura Keeping and that greyhound never really got away from her till the last 20m. She draws horribly up the track in box eight with Screaming Violet under her and Sooty Keeping outside of her. She will need luck from the draw to figure in the finish, but she has real talent.
Can Sooty Keeping win the Natinoal Futurity?
![]() |
8 Sooty Keeping
T: Charmaine RobertsF: 31411Career: 19: 10-4-2Prizemoney: $52,955
|
Sooty Keeping came into the futurity heats off a win in the Group 1 Paul Wheeler Consolation race called the Collerson. She couldn’t match early motors with Taormina in her heat but stalked that greyhound and raced past her approaching the home turn to race away with the fastest heat time and an impressive four-length win. She draws ok out in box eight and while not ideal, she should get enough room to move, provided Screaming Violet doesn’t get this far up the track. She only needs a clear run to the first corner to enable her to use her exceptional mid-race pace and race away to Group 1 glory. She should start as a warm favourite in this race.
