Rockhampton is set to host 12 races on Friday night from 7:11pm local time. The Rockhampton swing is coming to a close and we've got a scintillating edition of the 2023 Rockhampton Cup. The likes of local hopes: Ring Me and More Peaches will face off with stars – Shipwreck and Adulate. We've also got a cracking Cup Consolation and the final leg of the 4th/5th grade series.
Best Bet: Dixie Gambles
The locally trained Dixie Gambles will be looking to score successive Rockhampton Cup Consolations after failing to qualify for the 2023 Cup Final. As mentioned above, Dixie will be looking to retain her crown for this particular race as she won the 2022 edition by just under two lengths defeating Just A Sort. This was her coming of age and she's turned into a classy country sprinter with a terrific record to boot. She has drawn box eight at her past two starts which has proved quite the challenge in her career to date as she hasn't won from there in eight attempts. Not only is this race a drop back in class, she draws more favourably and has a good map. There's a lack of early speed directly inside her and given she can cross De Ferran heading into the first turn she will look to assume control from Isurava. She is very rarely run down when leading and has never encountered a defeat on the arm in Rockhampton. Expect this trend to continue as well as the money to continue to flow for her.

Next Best: Saron
Leading local trainer, Ken Boody will be hoping for a big night with three key chances in all feature races on the program and Saron also appears one of the bets of the night. Since returning from an injury enforced six week break, he hasn't dazzled on the form sheet. Despite this, he had been going well prior and his three runs have all had merit. After beginning on terms last week from box five, he was immediately squeezed out and relegated toward the rear. It was curtains from a winning perspective as kennelmate, White Like Snow dashed away to score in quick time however, he battled on gamely into third placing. Saron would prefer a wider alley however, without a runner inside him due to the Heslea scratching, he could very well get that clear early start he's desired. With any luck early, he's the most talented dog in this race which will take him a long way.

Newcomer to Rockhampton, Johnny Fernando will be looking to kick off his account with a win for Andrew Suli. Formally trained by Chris Brydon in Brisbane, Johnny brings stronger formlines north. Johnny hasn't run his best races at Albion Park or Ipswich however, his Capalaba PB of 20.01s will hold him in good regard for a race of this nature. In the past, dogs such as: Pitter Patter have brought similar times north for good results. Johnny is a winner from box seven in the past and appears to enjoy space out wide. He is sure to have had a trial in the lead up and given the sprinkle of early support, he might just have gone alright.
