Race 1 – 515M Restricted Win Heat – 7:08PM
I think the Kelly Bravo trained Blurred Lines can get us off to a flying start. In a race which lacks genuine speed the normally reliable beginner Blurred Lines should have no trouble crossing in the early stages. In recent times his form doesn’t look too flashy but he has been racing against stronger company on the provincial circuit and tonight he is stepping back up to a more suitable distance.
Peter Pettigrew does his best racing over this trip and he should also be suited by the class drop. The only knock on him is that he can be slow to begin at times, however four starts ago he overcame a slow start when narrowly beaten by the highly talented Deadly Boy. On that occasion they went very quick on the clock and his last 200 metres was very impressive. Lady Toy is likely to be well fancied, however she is notoriously slow early and from the awkward draw she is likely to experience a lot of bother in the run. She is a great anchor for third and fourth in exotic bets.
Top Four: 8 – 3 – 6 – 4
Win bet on Blurred Lines
Trifecta: 8/3,4,6/Field ($18 for $1)
First Four: 3,4,8/3,4,8/6/Field ($30 for $1)
First Four: 3,4,8/3,4,8/Field/6 ($30 for $1)
Race 2 – 515M Restricted Win Heat – 7:25PM
Top Secret has been racing in strong company of late and he is a chaser that is blessed with great early speed. He has raced well here in the past and with two slow beginners drawn outside, he should get every chance to lead at the first bend. Three starts ago he really caught the eye when placed in a heat of the Bendigo Cup. I believe he is better suited to this journey and he should be able to run the trip out a little stronger now.
Mepunga Ledger is the interesting runner, in recent times he has been racing against class opposition and he appears well graded. The only concern with him is that he can bomb the start at times and he does have a problem weaving through fields as he tends to hug the rail. If he is over the odds he would be a great saver bet. Hold On Wincup showed a great turn of foot in his smart 29.68 win here recently and he continues to show promise. His form line shows that he is a bit inconsistent, but if he is on song he has more than enough ability to match it with them.
Top Four: 6 – 4 – 3 – 1
Win bets on Top Secret and Mepunga Ledger
Boxed Quinella 1,3,4,6 ($6 for $1)
Exacta: 4,6/1,3,4,6 ($6 for $1)
Race 3 – 515M Restricted Win Heat – 7:44PM
I’m anticipating that Kelly Bravo is going to have a big night tonight and if it all goes to script she should be looking at an early treble with Hekate Belle. Three starts ago she showed a tremendous turn of foot soon after box rise before going onto to score at Shepparton in a brilliant 25.27. In her two subsequent runs she has experienced a limited amount of luck, but tonight she appears well placed into a very weak field and she should get every chance to lead throughout.
Stealthy Dancer scored a top 30.02 Meadows win back in March, but with a string of poor draws he has been unable to reproduce that winning form. Off the red he should be able to settle much closer to the speed and should be in the mix throughout. Blonde Oasis pinged the lids in her recent 34.49 Meadows win and although she is dropping back in distance she has enough early zip to be in the mix at the first bend tonight. She is likely to be under the odds, however she is very classy and obviously a strong winning chance.
Top Four: 6 – 1 – 2 – 4
Suggested Bets: Win bets on Hekate Belle and Stealthy Dancer (more on Hekate Belle).
Race 4 – 515M Restricted Win Heat – 8:08PM
The highly talented Lunar Tom is expected to start favourite and he probably should settle in the first two, however he has a strong tendency to idle alongside the leader and refuse to go past. So with that being the case, I have settled on the improving Abbey’s Hand. Three starts ago she turned in a monster performance when placed behind Mermaid Princess and she then franked that form with a strong finishing second here last Sunday. If she can get through the first bend unscathed she should play a major role in this company.
Lunar Tom is clearly the most talented chaser in the field, however as I stated he will not go past the leader and therefore he becomes a great quinella prospect. Dynamic Punch turned in a big performance at Warrnambool recently when scoring in a smart 25.57. On that occasion he powered to the line and he indicated that the extra journey is a big plus. Outside of the three mentioned, I can’t see anything else saluting.
Top Four: 7 – 5 – 3 – 2
Win bet on Abbey’s Hand
Trifecta: 3,7/5/Field ($12 for $1)
Trifecta: 3,7/Field/5 ($12 for $1)
Race 5 – 515M Grade 5 – 8:28PM
I really wanted to give up on the money munching Giddy’s Star, however like her past two starts here, she has landed in a weak event and has drawn favourably. So from the gun draw I’m willing to give her one more chance. In her past two efforts her first sections haven’t been quite as good, but in those races she hasn’t been given a lot of room at the first bend. Tonight’s event doesn’t appear to have a whole heap of early speed, so she should be able to drive through at the first bend. If she holds the early lead as expected she should be able to put a space in them off the back and finally get some of our cash back.
Upset Boy has won three of five over this journey and if he can get away on terms, he should be able to follow Giddy’s Star through at the first bend. I think Giddy’s Star might zip away from him off the back straight but he will hit the line solidly and might give her a fright on the line. Dundee Toro appears to be the only other winning hope, he is a chaser with early speed and he was far from disgraced when placed at Geelong recently over the 520m journey. With the early speed drawn inside I don’t think the chasers drawn out wide will get into the race.
Top Four: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4
Trifecta: 1/2,3,4/2,3,4,5,7,8 ($15 for $1)
Trifecta: 1,2/1,2/Field ($12 for $1)
Race 6 – 515M Grade 5 Final – 8:52PM
In what is a quality final with a number of future open class sprinters, I think we have found some value with Coulta Rock. In his brief career to date he hasn’t been exposed to many wide draws, however last week he really caught my eye when scoring a strong 29.52 heat win. The most impressive part was the fact he still managed to post that time considering he only went 5.20 to the first marker. If he can step to his best ability, I believe he is a sub 5.08 chaser to the first mark and that would see him lead this field comfortably and it’s hard to get run down running sub 29.50.
The consistent Dello Bale has won five races over this trip and four of them have been in 29.65 or faster. He can be a little hit or miss at boxrise but even if he does miss away he still has the ability to come from off the speed. Obviously the box draw is a bit of a test but he is too good to dismiss. Blinder is expected to settle in the top two early but her last 50 metres is less than desirable. If she can hold the lead she should be able to kick on for a place. Turbine. If Blinder kicks through to lead at the first turn then Turbine is likely to get the perfect sit on the weakening Blinder for most of the trip and could be the blowout value.
Top Four: 8 – 7 – 2 – 1
Suggested Bets: Win bets on Coulta Rock and Turbine (Coulta Rock should win if crosses, If Blinder holds them out then Turbine should get the perfect run and may run over the top in the home straight).
Race 7 – 595M Mixed 4/5 – 9:11PM
Cosmic Wise has been pinging the lids over the middle distances in recent times and if she can step cleanly again she should find herself in front at the first bend again. Last week she was reeled in late, however in that event the strong Ultor Bale found himself very close in the early stages and he was always going to reel her in. Tonight’s event features a number of front runners and she appears to have sufficient speed to win the early speed stakes. You should be able to get around $3.50 to $4 and that is great value.
Searle Bale is perfectly drawn out wide and she showed a return to her best when placed in a strong race here last week. Last week she sizzled early and mid race, which left her a little short in the run home. She should be much better for that effort and I expect her to run out the trip a lot better. Unix Bale has won two of her past three at The Meadows over 600 metres and her most recent win was in a very zippy 34.40, with some luck in running she is likely to feature.
Top Four: 3 – 8 – 2 – 5
Boxed Quinella: 2,3,5,8 ($6 for $1)
Exacta: 3,8/2,3,5,8 ($6 for $1)
Trifecta: 2,3,8/2,3,5,8/2,3,4,5,6,8 ($36 for $1)
Race 8 – 515M Free For All – 9:35PM
Awesome Project flew to the first marker here last week and was highly impressive, however tonight he has a lot of speed drawn directly outside and I think he is big unders at $1.80. Musquin Bale recorded a sizzling 29.30 win here in mid May and from his favourable draw tonight he should get every chance. On that occasion he posted a very quick 5.05 to the first peg and if he can reproduce that effort he should be able to hold them out at the first turn. If he does happen to lead there isn’t anything in this field that can reel him in.
Nockabout Aussie has turned in two herculean performances here in recent weeks and he is bursting to break through again. He can make a lot of mistakes in his races, but his last two performances are hard to ignore and he is likely to be over the odds again. Clearly Awesome Project is a major player, however he is going to be very short and I really believe he is worth risking. Dyna Kayla is resuming from a short spell and she should be primed for a bold first up showing.
Top Four: 1 – 3 – 5 – 2
Win bet on Musquin Bale
Roving Quinella: 1 to rove with 2,3,5
Race 9 – 515M Grade 5 Final – 9:55PM
I’ve gone for a little bit of value in this event. Dyna Perseus in my opinion has this field easily covered on pure talent. Late last year and earlier this year he recorded some scorching wins here and at Ballarat. Unfortunately he hasn’t taken the step up to the next level, but last week in his heat at Geelong he demonstrated his enormous ability with a top placing. After beginning well he was squeezed out at the first bend and once he balanced up he unleashed a brilliant finish to go down by less than three lengths. I think you are likely to get $8.00 or better and that is worth a crack each way.
Dyna Ostrander is going to be a major player in Group events in the near future and therefore he should make an impact tonight. After an average getaway, he quickly put on the afterburners and recorded a dashing 29.85 heat win at Geelong last week. On that occasion he scored by a widening eight lengths and with a clear run in the first 30 metres he should be in the finish. Hostile broke the track record in his heat, but he has proven to be a hard dog to follow in his brief career.
Top Four: 4 – 3 – 2 – 1
Suggested Bets: Win bets on Dyna Perseus and Dyna Ostrander.
Race 10 – 515M Mixed 4/5 – 10:12PM
Gimme Fuel is racing in career best form and although beaten here last week he was very impressive. After an average getaway he worked his way into second spot off the back straight and he was still coming on the line behind the classy Mepunga Fearon. He should have enough speed to lead tonight and he should be running sub 29.40 on the bunny.
Ollie Bale turned in a big performance when placed here recently behind Surf Mail. He can be hit or miss at box rise but he has won here previously in a sizzling 29.36 and should get a clear run early thanks to Gimme Fuel. Peloton Bale returned to his brilliant best with a strong 29.92 Meadows win last week and the only knock on him is that he can bomb the start at times.
Top Four: 2 – 3 – 4 – 1
Suggested Bet: Win bet on Gimme Fuel (Should be $3 or better)
Race 11 – 515M Grade 5 – 10:32PM
Mahogany Sapphire has been racing in consistent style here of late and on two occasions she has reeled off a first section of 5.05 or faster. From her favourable pink draw she should be able to muster speed quickly and therefore burn across to the early lead. Last week she was reeled in late by the gun chaser Oscura and if she can lead tonight there doesn’t appear to be any runner with Oscura type talent that will reel her in. She should start around the $5.50 mark
Dyna Glinda is showing loads of promise and two starts ago she pushed Mepunga Hayley to the limit for most of the trip when placed in a heat of the Damsels Dash. In her brief career she has proven to be fairly reliable early and appears to be getting better with every run. There is not a lot of speed drawn directly underneath tonight so she, along with Mahogany Sapphire, should have no trouble getting across. Mystic Twist has won two of five over this trip and she appears to be the only other winning hope.
Top Four: 8 – 7 – 3 – 6
Trifecta: 7,8/7,8/3,4,5,6 ($8 for $1)
Quinella: 7 & 8
Roving Quinella: 8 to rove with 3,6,7 ($3 for $1)
Race 12 – 515M Grade 5 – 10:52PM
Dyna Fancy has finally put it all together and last week she recorded a blistering 4.99 to the first marker at The Meadows before going on to score in 30.16. Tonight I would expect her to lead again and she appears to be getting stronger with every run. This event lacks genuine depth and I can easily see her leading all the way.
Dynamo’s Gift is the class act in the line up and he has won here previously in a sizzling 29.46. Obviously a repeat of that effort will see him win, however from the pink draw he may have trouble crossing early. He can still win if he doesn’t lead but he will need a little bit of luck as they head into the first turn. Zambora Power has been racing in great heart at Sale of late and he is a very fast chaser when on the bunny. The only concern is that Dyna Fancy might carve him up in the first 30 metres of the event.
Top Four: 4 – 8 – 3 – 7
Trifecta: 4/3,7,8/1,3,6,7,8 ($12 for $1)
