The Meadows betting preview & best bets | Saturday, 29/4/23
The Meadows is set to host 12 races on Saturday night from 6:39pm local time. There’s five heats of the GOTBA Cup which will host a multitude of impressive fifth graders including the likes of: Umberto, Magic Muffin, Al’s Entity, Peacock and Black Avenger. The VIC Bred series will conclude in next week’s final.
Best Bet: Angus Anchovy
Trainer Darren Fisher will be looking to execute a hit and run mission with his only runner of the night, Angus Anchovy. The two-year-old son of Fernando Bale is a winner of two races from ten starts with a further 5 placings. Since returning from a two month spell due to a misdemeanor, he has placed in both efforts. Jumping at long odds in his return, he began well off the wide draw and was just unable to cross the eventual winner, Meatball Molly. Last start, he just leaped in the air at box rise which cost him half a length early. He tried to rectify that error at box rise, pushing through a tight hole where he was subsequently checked. Eventually, he found clear room but he had run his race. Jumping from the red tonight, he appears the likely leader and given he can hold the rails heading into the first turn, he is clearly the best dog in this race with the most upside.

Next Best: Aussie Rock’s
Trainer Geoffrey Mitchell appears to have a smart dog in Aussie Rock’s who will be looking to record win number seven at start fourteen. The two-year-old son of Aussie Infrared has recently been sporadically raced only having lined up for three starts over the past two months. His last start effort appears the right formline for this race when he was able to score by upwards of four lengths defeating Conroy who he faces off with once again tonight. Conroy has only had the one start over this track and trip for a failure when running last beaten nine lengths in 30.78s. Aussie Rock’s returns to The Meadows 525m start where he is undefeated in two starts to date recording slick wins in 30.03s and 30.05s respectively. He has a terrific record from low draws and I expect that to continue tonight from the red onwards to a great victory.

Best Value: Al’s Enitity
Paul Abela is enjoying his best winning start to a calendar year and will be hoping Al’s Entity can continue the good times. The two-year-old son of Collision has shown plenty of promise in his ten starts which have included three wins, five placings and an unlucky 4th in the 2023 Group 3 Launching Pad. He has shown thus far, he enjoys wide boxes and that was made evident with his dashing win last week. Jumping from box eight, he began well before suffering interference on the first turn. He was able to climb back off the canvas and score by two lengths in 29.53s. Once again, Al finds himself in a wide box and given Aston Wyatt drawn outside him is a tarty beginner, Al will have the time and space to let down. Both Magic Muffin and Jackpot Joan appear his main rivals. Both above dogs run their best races when on the arm and they both can’t be there while Al’s Entity can win from off the speed.
