The Meadows betting tips

The Meadows will host 12 races on Saturday night from 6:38pm local time, headlined by the To The Meadows feature in race four. There is also a maiden final to open the card, where Cawbourne Domino will start as a dominant favourite.

Best Bet: Zulu Blast (Race 2)

Jason Thompson is well attuned to a smart, young pup and Zulu Blast appears to fall into that category. The one-year-old son of x burst onto the scene when scoring by four lengths in a slick 29.77 in a heat of the GRV VIC BRED Maiden Series. Zulu Blast was more dominant in the semi-final, scoring by seven lengths and bettering his previous time with a 29.47. These two wins contributed to him starting as an odds-on favourite in the $15,000-to-the-winner final, where the bubble burst and he tasted his first defeat. This weekend, he has his first public crack at The Meadows 525m, which appears a more suitable distance. could not have asked for a better box draw as he is outside one of the most consistent beginners in Victoria, Never Be Alone. He will get a lovely cart into the race, allowing him to let rip down the back on his way an emphatic victory.

Next Best: Fab's Wasabi (Race 3)

Fab's Wasabi has been racing in tremendous fashion since entering the kennels. The two-year-old son of x Fabriola Allen has had six starts for Pursell, resulting in two wins including a brilliant 30.05 effort over course and trip in late April. He has only won three from 24, which gives context to Pursell's excellent training feat. Scouring through his recent form, he has raced against some top quality opposition including a last-start fourth to . This race appears well within his grasp and the key will be jumping well at box rise. He has done so in almost all his starts for Pursell and has been a touch unlucky not to have led on more occasions. There doesn't appear to be a great deal of speed in this race with the only threat to the lead being in box eight, Kingsville Flyer. If Fab's Wasabi can find the top heading out of the first turn, he will prove almighty hard to run down.

Best Value: Side Of Ice (Race 1)

This is an intriguing maiden final. Cawbourne Domino has relocated to Victoria and changed kennels from to . He returned off a five-month break with an ultra-impressive all-the-way win by 13 lengths, stopping the clock at 30.11. With this win, bookmakers are taking no chances as he takes up almost all the market percentage. He isn't a faultless beginner, however, and will be less suited to a full field, which makes him vulnerable at the short quote. The value runner in this race is the likely leader, Side Of Ice, who could escape all trouble on the first turn and get out with a big break. The one-year-old daughter of x Dutch Audrey has shown terrific speed, leading in all her three outings to date. She is suited to the wide draw, as she likes to use the track, and will be the one they'll all have to catch.
