The Meadows greyhound preview & best bets | Saturday, 27/5/23

are set to host 12 races on Saturday night from 6:32PM local time. The feature race on the program is the “1-6 Win Final” set to be run over the 600m where Raven Owl will start a commanding favourite. The free-for-all race attracts a cracking field with the likes of Elite Alex, , and set to fight out the finish.

Best Bet: Raven Owl (Race 6)

Leading Victorian trainer Thomas Dailly will be looking to continue his recent success after a training treble at The Meadows on the 24th of May. He has a stranglehold on the feature race with three starters and it's hard to go past Raven Owl who will be looking to make it four on the bounce. The one-year-old daughter of x My Black Raven made a statement last week on her debut at the 600m. Jumping from a wide box, she was slowly away and received a few bumps. Despite this, she ended up finding a terrific trailing position heading into the back straight. Mystic Moment appeared to have the race shot to bits; however, Raven Owl was able to put the down and steamed home for a breathtaking victory. Before this, She was enormous winning over the 525m from well off the pace. She finds herself stepping from the inside box tonight and her last run from this draw was a dazzling seven length win when running 30.17. This time is usually not one to rave on about; however, the free-for-all race on the same day went just three lengths quicker with Garry Stun On scoring in 29.98. Her main rival tonight appears to be Boomburst who was the fastest qualifier from the heats running 34.40 out of the pink box. Despite the main danger running a quicker time qualifying, Raven Owl is drawn perfectly with Trevor's Gift outside who showed last week she likes to get off the track around the turns which will leave plenty of room for Raven Owl to rail underneath. With any luck, she will steam home and win the feature.

Next Best: Desired Path (Race 4)

The first of four 600m races on the card appears to lack depth and the dog on the rise, Desired Path is the one they'll all have to catch. The one-year-old daughter of x Valletta Mist has recently made the step up to the 600m and enjoyed instant success when winning in a moderate 34.88 at 595m. Jumping slowly from box seven, she was able to show terrific muster and found a brilliant spot heading down the back straight. She quickly pounced on the leader and was able to fend off the late challenge of Tudor Folk. Last week she found herself the outsider of five in a difficult 600m at The Meadows where Scofflaw was victorious. Jumping poorly once again from a wide box, this time she didn't enjoy a clean passage through the first turn as she was the recipient of multiple checks. She was all out on the line and would've taken plenty of benefit from the outing. She lines up having her third crack at the distance and has found an extremely shallow race with Scarlett Express, a winner of only three races from thirty-eight starts the current favourite. She is drawn outside her which is brilliant as Scarlett Express wants to step right and will leave plenty of room for Desired Path to show her wicked turn of speed to find the top. With the runs under her legs now at this trip expect her to be stronger in the finish and prove hard to run down.

Best Value: Launch Code (Race 9)

On a night where most favourites make appeal as the clear on top selection, this race is extremely open and Launch Code appears the forgotten runner. Trainer Luigi Pisano would only have a few dogs in commission and Launch Code has already done a terrific job for making a Launching Pad consolation final only a month ago. Before this, he had run a terrific 29.37 at Sandown winning a 6th/7th final by upwards of eight lengths. Despite failing to trouble the winners circle since this victory, he has run some cracking races well out of his grade. He has placed in three of his past five including running third to the hot in 30.25. As mentioned earlier, this race is very open with the current favourite, Responder returning from a three month hiatus with a plausible third at Bendigo over the 425. With the time spent away from the track and the steep rise in distance, this runner has to be a query. Both Dr. Falkor and Black Avenger take up a lot of market percentage for dogs who have a poor record over this track and trip. Launch Code has been stepping well recently and given he can get through the first turn cleanly, he will be in the finish.
