Today’s best free greyhound tips for Sunday 24th June 2018
Small fields and no greyhound racing in NSW at all this Sunday. The industry is contracting. Our records show only just over 10,000 active racing greyhounds nationwide.
Three years ago Bruce Teague observed on this website that from his own records the active number of racing greyhounds “is running just over or under 14,000”. While not using the same system, the methodology is similar; so we have dramatically lost around 28% of the racing pool of greyhounds in under three years. And by lost; we mean they were never bred to start with.
Time will tell; but suspect we are at a tipping point. If authorities don't actively promote participation and investment in greyhound racing in Australia, then we could be seeing the last days of this great industry. Let's hope those in charge recognise the extent of the precipice they are drifting in to blindly.
Let's enjoy it while we can. We have two best bets for you today, both from Sale.
Sandown Race 2 Box 8 Head Loch
For a greyhound that has only won two from seven starts, Head Loch has a big reputation attached to him largely due to his 23.91 Bendigo Maiden Final win where he thrashed opponents by nine lengths. Has hit the starter four times since and although performing well hasn't found the next level yet. Should get every chance from box eight today and start to make inroads in to living up to the wraps placed on him.
Sportsbet are top odds of $1.85 so use your PowerPlay and get on at close to black odds.
Sale Race 12 Box 5 Gaviria
Gaviria has won six of 13 race starts and has the pace to offset the awkward box five draw in the last from Sale greyhounds today. Only other greyhound with early pace is drawn to his outside, which should give our pick every chance to control the rail early and the race.
Sportsbet again are the best of the odds on offer at $3.40 which is all cream.
