Wednesday’s Wentworth Park preview & best bets | October 5, 2022

Wentworth Park tips

A nifty nine-race card greets on this first Wednesday of daylight savings. While nominations may have closed early due to the public holiday, we still have some very good races to sort out and lots of winners to find. As always, we will do our best to find a couple for you.

BEST BET: Canya Smoke Them (Race 3)

Owned by ‘The Duke' Mark Duclos and trained by , has improved with every run he has had. He is now six starts for two wins, two seconds and a third and won his heat and the final of the maiden series in scintillating fashion. The time he ran in the maiden final was only a couple of lengths slower than the winner of the Chase itself, which is impressive. He now finds himself in a very winnable 1-2 wins restricted race which is perfectly graded for him, and he is well boxed with nothing on his outside and a runner that will head to the fence early inside him. With his personal best some three-tenths of a second quicker than anyone else in this race, and with his improvement of late, Canya Smoke Them… yes, he can.

Danger: Cheeky Bon Bon, whilst not racing that well of late, will appreciate the drop in grade, the draw in box one, and is the only other dog to have bettered the 30-second mark in this field. If anything happens to the top pick, this guy might be the one.

NEXT BEST BET: Punter's Bandit (Race 8)

Anyone that saw this girl's run on Saturday night will know just how unlucky she was. As per normal she wasn't the flashiest away, and she found trouble at the first turn and then started to wind up and ran into more dead ends than a learner driver in the inner west of Sydney. Anthony Lord and the greyhound lovers at Punters Hq have got themselves another very handy dog with Punter's Bandit. She finds herself in a six-dog race, which will help her tremendously as she can take a few strides to get her big motor whirring. The vacant box next to her helps and the dog outside her hasn't been beginning that well herself. If she can just find a position on away from trouble, whoever leads will be a sitting shot for this girl.

Danger: It's Got Legs will be celebrate his second birthday at the track and has handled the switch to Wenty Park well, although he hasn't been worrying the timekeeper of late. However, if he leads this race, he could run a new PB and sneak out a win if the pink finds trouble.

Next Best Again: Paua Of Abby (Race 5)

Having only her sixth career start, this Riverina girl has just been running best-of-nights whenever she comes out of the boxes running. She has been transferred to the very capable hands of Robyn Goodwin after her last run and has been brought to town in search of bigger races. She has progressed nicely from maiden to fifth-grade sprint to 500m sprint and has run best-of-night times on each occasion. The biggest concern is that as the odds-on favourite last start from box eight she blew the start and got flattened at the first turn. Hopefully, that was the last time she misses the kick, and if she can come out running tonight, this is a very winnable fifth-grade race at very nice odds.
