wentworth park tips for september 17 2022

A star studded Saturday night of greyhound racing at Wentworth Park with a quality filled 10 race program being presented. Six heats of the Young Stars Classic for age restricted greyhounds will take place and the final will be run here next Saturday night on MDC final night and a few very nice graded races. As always we will try to guide to towards a few handy greyhounds and wish you all the best of luck with any investment you make and as always please gamble responsibly.

Best Bet – Magical Mavis (Race 9)

We tipped Magical Mavis as our value runner two weeks back and they didn’t miss her. She was backed in from around $8 to start around $3 favourite with AU betting sites and duly saluted like a good thing. Jason Magri has taken over the training duties and she was always going to be rock hard fit and well educated on the track and her first run back from a spell was scintillating, running top class sectionals, on her way to a very nippy 29.58 victory. Admittedly she climbs a couple of grades but the way she handled herself and the fact she has come up with the Ladbrokes’ cherry red rug and a moderate beginner drawn beside her all point to another Magical performance from Mavis.

Danger: Lochinvar Lona, who did nothing wrong here last week, used the red rug perfectly to notch up career win number 10 with eight placing from twenty one runs. However she won’t want to be slow out and looking for the fence from out there but she is the definite threat to Mavis.

Next Best Bet – Impress Dressel (Race 2)

This son of Barcia Bale and Effective Comet has returned to Peter Sims after a stint in the very strong Lord kennels and has shown enough to warrant being a major player in this race despite the awkward draw. Was given a 400m hit out first run back from a break and was the best thing beaten you’ve ever seen when he was cruising up to them and just ran smack bang into the back of the leader. Peter Sims also had the winner of that race and it will be vying for favouritism in race 10. He has good pace and strength and if he gets an ounce of luck with the moderate beginners drawn either side of him he will put himself right into this race. He does like to find the fence mid race and storm along and that is the query. Can he get that position?

Danger: Lady Stomp from the powerful Lord kennel and had a good wrap on her from the very beginning and is now starting to put it all together but the query is if she can run a quick enough time to put these away.

Best Value Bet – Fat Boy’s Charm (Race 8)

In early markets this Fat Boy is around $6 but he is expected to drift out and hopefully gets out to nice each way odds. He did the right thing by us all last Saturday night when he again launched late to overhaul a Richmond Derby and Dapto Silver collar winner if you don’t mind giving him about four lengths lead on the home turn and if you believe in the data that the speed trackers in the greyhounds’ vest shows, he actually accelerated again from the point of the home turn to the winning post which is amazing. The fly in the ointment is of course the box draw and box five will allow him no favours as he will want to find the fence through the first turn and then peel out going down the back and launch his blistering final blast. The key to this race will be what the favourite Tania Keeping who is drawn next to him does. If she begins like she does and cuts across to the fence he may just get the gun run which is why he is absolutely the best each way bet of the night if the odds hold up.

Best Roughie Bet – Breakwall (Race 7)

This stunning black boy is trained by the maestro of the Million Dollar Chase Peter Lagogiane (who has won the MDC twice) and is a full brother to his top prospect to win MDC number three, French Martini and early on Peter even thought this boy may be a touch better than French Martini. He has had a few setbacks having only had the six career starts but has won four of those and been placed in the other two and deserves his shot in this race. His last two wins from wide boxes over the Richmond 400m have been very good and it will be very interesting to see how he handles his first race start at Wentworth Park but the wide draw will help. You can be sure that the Lagogiane team will have had him go around here in trials and while Zipping Lyris and Spring Meteor should hold a majority of the market, early on you could get about $9 or $10 but snap it up because at those odds he is a fabulous roughie.
