Wentworth Park betting preview & best bets | Saturday, 7/1/23

Wentworth Park betting tips

The first Saturday night meeting for 2023 sees play host to eleven races and it promises to begin the new year of racing with a bang. Lots of great greyhound action and plenty of greyhounds are having their final hit out before next week's heats and looking to establish themselves as genuine contenders for that series. As always we will look to find you a few winners and hopefully guide you into a profitable start to Saturdays at Wenty Park for 2023.

Best Bet – #8 Cawbourne Magic (Race 6)

With no 720 races on the card tonight and the Paws of Thunder heats due next week, switches back to a 520m race tonight but it is impossible to go against this rising staying superstar. Jodie and have this son of and Cawbourne Ruby absolutely flying for long-time owner and breeder Stuart Dickinson. His record over the 520m here is not great and he hasn't saluted in ten tries but he has run six placings. However he is in career best form and he does enjoy and handle outside boxes. He will be slow away against the sprinters and it will all come down to whether he can wind up that massive motor in time to run down the sprinters. The will be that he should be some value and there should be plenty of people willing to take him on and say he won't win which will increase his price. The fact he has won nine of his last ten with a second in there, means he deserves to be a best bet on form alone.

Danger: Gozo King. Who has the pace to be handy behind the tearaway leader (Eureka Remi), who will tire down the back straight and can take advantage of that. But will need to establish himself a good break to hold off the flying Cawbourne Magic late unless he finds trouble which is a distinct possibility.

Next Best – #3 Tommy Kade (Race 1)

It's well known that winning your first fifth grade race the very next start after breaking your maiden is a very difficult thing to do, but gets in to a restricted class race where there are only two winners on the track and he is one of them. He is trained by the all-conquering Lord kennels and ran a fantastic first section last week in his maiden which set up his good win. Add to this he was very heavily backed so and fans obviously knew his ability. The fact that it was his first ever race start and first 500m race only adds to that confidence, in that he will improve in education and fitness and this promises to be a dog to watch and maybe a dog that will be hitting peak fitness right in time for the Paws of Thunder. If Tommy can reproduce his early turn of foot you can expect him to smash the 30 sec mark tonight and win this race quite comfortably.

Danger: Single Swinger. The only dog that can possibly match the early pace of Tommy Kade and will need to hold him out to the first turn and them if he can it will be a match race to the winning post.

Best Value – #1 Zambidis (Race 2)

This boy was a finalist back in May and since has been mixing his distances and form and not really being able to repeat that form. He is a dog that will relish the inside draw in this field and will also appreciate the restricted class of dog he meets here. Now, he has been off the scene for almost three months having a well-deserved break and possibly eyeing off the bigger races to come and if he is ready first up he will be mighty value in this race. The downside is he is an ordinary beginner who likes to work into his races and that is not a great recipe for success here at Wenty but with good pace draw immediately outside him that likes to stay a touch wide and good pace out wide coming across he might just get the dream run through at the first turn and be sitting right on the leaders back and then it will just be a case of how fit is he first up. Tw0 of these dogs were beaten odds on favourites last week and Rockstar Gunner has been racing well which means this boy will be the forgotten greyhound in this race and may well be over the odds and get out to a ridiculous price.

Best Roughie – #8 Machismo (Race 9)

Another of the Vadim Roz visitors from South Australia looking at next week's Paws of Thunder heats and if he is to be considered a threat in that series should be going close in this. Totally blew the start in his first look here and forget he ever went around. His Kennelmate Yarramundi Paul was good first up and is in as well tonight, but expect massive improvement from this boy. He was racing in Free For All company at and drops back into an average fifth grade here and will be way over the odds he should be and is not doubt a great roughie..
