Wentworth Park racing tips

Saturday night at will be . There is a free-for-all race that would be the equal of any Group 1 final anywhere in the country, with the Champ, The People's Pup and the Grand Old Boy all going head-to-head. Add to this a great staying race, some nice restricted-class races and some classy graded races, and we have 11 of the best for your Saturday night fill of greyhound action. As always, we will try to find you a winner or two.

Best Bet: Chance Model (Race 9)

showed exactly what he can do here last week, beginning well and then grinding away at top speed to beat a good field in good time. He has never had box two in his career but has performed so well off the red rug, and if he gets an ounce of room early, he will be driving to the lead at the winning post the first time and charging away for win number seven.

Danger: Mellcat Leslie
He can begin on his night and can run time, although his best runs have been on the bigger tracks. He gets the outside box, which will help his cause, but he will need to go half a second quicker than he ever has before to knock off the Model.

Next Best: Simply Limelight (Race 8)

Last week, in the best race we have seen at Wentworth Park since the carnival, Simply Limelight showed just how good a dog he truly is by giving the mighty champion She's A Pearl a start and a beating. It was the first time that She's A Pearl has been in front in a race and not won. Simply Limelight stalked the champ and was just too strong and ran top-class time to boot. This race maps very similarly to last week's ; there will be exceptional early pace and Simply will just track them early rail hard through the first turn, take advantage of any trouble by hugging the rail and then unleash down the back straight.

Danger: She's A Pearl
Write her off at your own peril. She just doesn't know how to give up. She is not quite as explosive early as she once was, but seems to be able to find her top gear quickly and sustain it for longer than most. The vacant box under her will help, but she will need to miss the trouble in the run to the first turn in a race that has an abundance of pace.

Best Value: Mister O'Brien (Race 3)

Mister O'Brien – owned and trained by Glenn Bryen – has been so close of late and definitely has a paw on a winner's . His run a month ago behind was top notch, and even his run here two starts back was very good. He is a dog that doesn't get a lot of luck in his races and has won here in a handy 30.09, which is a time that might go close to winning this race. He has only had box one once before and that was for a good win here at headquarters. He is not a flash beginner, which has probably stopped him winning twice as many races as he currently has, but gets in beautifully into this restricted-class race and will make great use of box one at good odds.

Best Roughie: Tiger Jack (Race 7)

It's great to see this boy back and racing. He has been coming along nicely since his eight-month layoff, and his run in Melbourne in The at level two starts ago was superb. He is much better when he can get to the fence early, and his draw will help this, but he can be an awkward customer and often finds trouble in his races. He will need to begin better than he often does, as he cannot give his superstar kennelmates a head start and a beating, but this boy is a definite threat at what should be healthy odds.
