Wentworth Park betting preview & tips | Saturday, October 22

A sensational spring Saturday night awaits us at with 10 top-quality greyhound races set down for decision. Let's hope the weather complies and we get a fast racing surface. The heats will be the feature with seven races where all dogs are vying to get themselves into next week's final, where a $13,000 payday awaits plus a service to the wonderful Good Odds Harada courtesy of the Hurst family. As always, we will do our best to help you find some winners, and hopefully at nice odds.

Best Bet – Canya Smoke Them (Race 7)

We're sticking with this talented chaser which is owned by greyhound royalty Mark ‘The Duke' Duclos and trained by the wily evergreen veteran Andy Lord. He won as he liked here last week and we can't see that changing tonight. has improved with just about every run he has had. He is now eight starts for four wins, two seconds and a third, and won his heat and the final of the Maiden series in scintillating fashion. The time he ran in the maiden final was only a couple of lengths slower than the winner of the Chase itself, which is impressive. He moves from the favourable one box out into box seven but will get some room early as the six dog does like to head to the fence. His personal best time here at Wenty is a full half a second quicker than anyone else in this race, and with his continued improvement of late… Canya Smoke Them? Yes, he can.

Danger: is the strongest dog in the race. If trouble befalls the top pick, he can certainly find enough to run over the top of them, but he won't want to give Canya too much of a start.

Next Best Bet – Unlike You (Race 6)

This boy was desperately unlucky last Saturday night when beaten less than a length, but that's what you get at this venue when you're a moderate beginner and you fly home. It is a tight circuit and occasionally you will get a check or two that puts you out of the running. His record here at Wentworth Park is very good, too, having had seven starts for three wins and three minor placings. His last two wins have been excellent having only begun moderately and then accelerated through to assume control and really race away. Therein lies the only problem. If he misses the kick from box two again tonight, he may get smothered down on the rail; however, with the red dog possessing a little bit of early pace, he can drop in behind it for a perfect run. There is no question he will be too strong for these if he gets an even break. His personal best is lengths better than anything else in the race, and if he can go anywhere near that, he'll be winning. This week you just might get some black numbers in the odds column as well.

Danger: came to town to take on the Million Dollar Chase series and performed admirably. He loves a wide box and has good early pace. This one looks the early leader, and if he can stack them up and get some help, he might just be able to slip away with another win.

Best Value Bet – Forever Thankful (Race 2)

It is fair to say this girl trained by Kayla-Jane Coleman hasn't set the world on fire since returning from a short let-up after chasing Million Dollar Chase glory. However, she does possess some exceptional early speed, and Coleman will have her ready to fire third-up. If she does begin well, she will run around the 5.45-second mark to the winning post the first time and that will lead this field. She quite likes Wentworth Park, with 14 starts here for four wins and four placings, and she has been racing against the best in the country of late. The drop back to fifth grade will help her tremendously, and if she can find the front, she'll be extremely hard to get past at decent each-way odds.

Best Roughie – Nimble Lulu (Race 8)

This girl has been mixing her distances a bit of late, and that is sometimes done for a couple of reasons. Sharon Grey is an astute trainer who has had a few very good dogs and knows what she is doing. The Lord kennel also does this from time to time (read Punters Bandit in race one) just to sharpen their dogs up in a bid to have them leading in a race. has a 720m win here, so she does know the track better than her none-for-two record suggests, and with crashing down from out wide, our girl could easily be good enough to score here at any old price if she misses the early trouble.
