Wentworth Park tips and best bets

It's a super sensational Saturday night at this week and quite probably the last time the grand old lady of greyhound racing in NSW will host the Sprint and Distance Championships. The best sprinters and best stayers in the nation come together to settle the score and establish bragging rights for the next 12 months and what great greyhounds it has attracted. Toss in a maiden final and a fifth grade final and we are in for a great nights racing at headquarters.

So what are you waiting for? Get trackside and please gamble responsibly.

Best Bet – Simply Limelight (Race 8)

This son of Kinloch Brae and , , has taken all before him in recent times and there is no reason that Patricia Breen and Peter Rodgers won't be collecting the beautiful silverware, sash, cheque and presents that go along with being the National Sprint Championship for 2022 on behalf of their champion chaser Simply Limelight on Saturday night. He has had twenty career starts and has had nine wins and nine placings. From boxes four and inside he has had nine starts for eight wins. He has drawn perfectly in box one and if he can hold off the pace drawn immediately on his outside in boxes two and three to the first turn, he will lead all the way. The way he has been improving of late he may stop the clock at something mind boggling and possibly giving the old record a nudge and will certainly be right in the middle of the Limelight.

Danger: Good Odds Cash can certainly run fast enough to worry these, but has pace drawn in box two and box one and will need a touch of luck. If she can bring her best she will certainly be in this race.

Next Best Bet – Midnight Return (Race 7)

doesn't bring many to Wenty Park these days, but has been here twice and looks to be starting to work out the tight glebe circuit. This daughter of Barcia Bale and Midnight Dare found nothing but trouble here in the heats and was a tremendous effort to run second after missing the kick and having to work so hard during the run to only just miss Mount Victoria right on the line. Whilst she is not the quickest beginner in this race, she is probably the strongest and if she can just get an ounce of luck in the run to the first corner and find a nice handy position, she will be powering past dogs in the back straight and to the line. She has one of the best personal bests in the race and will no doubt improve again from the heats. If they don't get miles away in front and she doesn't get knocked down in the run to the first turn, she will be finishing with style again and hopefully will be saluting for us all.

Danger: Mount Victoria may well lead again and if she cuts across could cause a traffic jam on the inside which would affect our top pic and possibly allow her to zip away in the lead.

Best Each Way Bet – Zipping Whiskey (Race 1)

This talented youngster by SH Avatar and , Zipping Whiskey, has only faced the starter once and did plenty wrong that night yet still picked himself up dusted himself off and ran a creditable third. He is again drawn awkwardly in box six, but you know that Mick Hardman will have this boy cherry ripe for this final after the ten day break from the heats and it is expected that he will improve immensely. If he can begin a bit better he may find himself in a handy position early and he certainly has the breeding and ability to run himself right in to the finish. It is always tipping in a maiden especially a maiden final but this boy should be juicy odds from this alley and should be the genuine improver in this field. He represents tremendous value especially if you can snap up some double figure odds.

Best Value Bet – Club Model (Race 2)

This sister to and should be leading this field fairly easily but can she hang on?? That is the question about Club Model. She lead here last start before being collared down the back straight, running fourth and pulling up with an minor injury. Even with that injury she ran a personal best around here and with a couple Richmond 400m races to tune her up should be ready for this. So if being on the leader through the catching pen at around $20 is what you want in a roughie then this girl is for you. She might not be quite in the same class of some of these chasers but if she cuts across from box eight and stacks them up, there is no reason she can't establish a decent break and give you a real run for your money at any old odds.
