Wentworth Park betting preview, top tips & odds | Saturday, 6/8
Well what a Saturday night Wentworth Park has for us this week. Two heats of the National Sprint Championships, the final of which, will be run here at Headquarters later in the month, with the best greyhounds in the country descending on the grand old glebe circuit to settle who the best in the land is for 2022. Along with those heats, we have another quality 720m race and a fistful of quality sprinting races. Can’t wait to get trackside and see those greyhounds fly. As always please gamble responsibly and within your means.
Best Bet – Coco Model (Race 1)
This daughter of Barcia Bale x Champion Model, Coco Model, is a half-sister to Coast Model and full sister to Club Model who both go around later tonight and has the same family traits namely the early burn and ability. She has been going well in non-graded races and led Simple Limelight last start. Now she drops back into a 5th grade race for young gun trainer Tayt Corless and should be able to burn these opponents to the first turn and if she manages that they will be hard pressed to run this girl down. She has finished third in a Group 1 Futurity and regularly carves out sub 5.40 sec first sections here which will lead in more races than not and especially this one. Looking to a Hot Coco to warm us on this August night.
Danger: Surprise Baby for Leo Vanderburg has pace on her night but is a hit or miss beginner and has the best personal best in this race if she gets a comfortable trail across behind The Model early and gets to sit on her tail she may be the danger late.
Best Bet
Race 1 – Coco Model (7)
Form: 551623 | Career: 36: 12-7-7 | Trainer: Tayt Corless
Next Best Bet – Super Estrella (Race 4)
In what appears to be round 5 of the ongoing battle between what are probably the three best stayers in the state, Tiger Jack, Cawbourne Magic and Super Estrella we were so impressed by the way Estrella stuck on after not leading last week that she is our next best bet. David Smith has Estrella humming at present and that was more than evident last start when this talented staying girl tried every inch of her tail off to just miss on the line in good time. She is better drawn with the vacant box underneath her here tonight, and there is no reason the she won’t “lob on the lure” in this and give them something to chase.
Dangers: Cawbourne Magic and Tiger Jack as usual, these three will run the trifecta barring serious interference and at present Jack is luckless and can’t quite get down to the times of Cawbourne and Estrella. He is always a threat and Cawbourne Magic showed what he can do when he finds the front and that was a good exhibition last week.
Next Best
Race 4 – Super Estrella (4)
Form: 128212 | Career: 63: 26-16-12 | Trainer: David Smith
Best Each Way Bet – Zephyr Zulu (Race 2)
Zephyr Zulu has only had the six career starts before tonight for a couple of wins and a couple of seconds and the key to her is beginning well and in a race devoid of any real genuine pace this daughter of Zulu Zeus and Cheyanne may well just get the fly down the outside. Her two wins have been off box one, but if you watched the way she handled box eight at Dapto against a quality opponent who has won several races here in town, there is no doubt she will handle this box again here tonight, especially if she finds the front. Now there is a concern about her running out a strong 500m but when you are in front at Wenty Park sometimes those concerns take care of themselves. She will start at double figure odds and for a dog that could well lead this race comfortably, is definitely the each way play of the night.
Best Each Way Bet
Race 2 – Zephyr Zulu (8)
Form: 411225 | Career: 6: 2-2-0 | Trainer: Garry Edwards
Best Value Bet – Embrace (Race 5)
We know some tipsters have their own favourite dogs etc. but how Embrace has been overlooked in this field beggar’s belief. She has been on a journey up north chasing classic race victories up there running sixth in the rich final. So that just shows what an astute trainer and connections think of her. She has as good a personal best as most of these, has enough pace to lead off box two where her record is one start for one second, has slow beginners drawn either side and is trained by the very clever Craig Chappelow. If she can hold the lead into the first turn can certainly win at what are in early markets very attractive odds.
Best Value Bet
Race 5 – Embrace (2)
Form: 212126 | Career: 19: 3-7-1 | Trainer: Craig Chappelow
