Wentworth Park preview

Wednesday night racing is on again at and the greyhounds are all set to fly. We have 10 races set down for decision, with five heats of a nice restricted 1-3 wins race, a good free-for-all and some nice graded races. As always, we will try to find you a few winners, and good luck with your investments.

Best Bet: Modern Swinger (Race 10)

This brindle son of and gave nothing else a chance last Saturday night. He had an awkward draw to contend with but was backed with confidence into a very short price, and he used his early pace to zip down the middle of the track, race away and run the time of a serious greyhound — even if it was only a maiden final. His improvement on the clock was impressive and the time he ran was that of an open-class dog. While this is harder, he goes back into the red rug, which should see him leading again around the first bend. If he can go anywhere near repeating the time he ran on Saturday, he will likely gap this field as well.

Danger:
You always have to respect the Lord kennel, and especially when they bring their young dogs straight from a good maiden win at to the city. This one might need a look in town and will be improved vastly on whatever he does tonight, but you know he wouldn't be here without some ability.

Best Bet

Race 10 – Silk (1)

Form: 211 | Career: 3: 2-1-0 | Trainer: Chris O'Brien

Next Best Bet: Gypsy Flyer (Race 5)

We tipped this girl first-up at Wenty when she blew the start and ran fourth. She improved last week and was a touch unlucky as she was contesting the lead at the first turn when she was carted off the track. She knuckled down and the run was damn good, all things considered. Sharon Grey should have her rock-hard ready for this in her third go over the 520m distance, and she moves back into the inside box, which will suit her down to the ground. She has only had the inside box once for a win, and if she can handle the slight grade rise and show that early pace, she can definitely hold the fence and lead this race. She will need to improve on the clock and tonight will be the acid test for this flyer, who comes in at a very handy price.

Danger: Heaven's Whisper
's little blue girl has been racing so well over the shorts at of late and takes the massive step up to the Wentworth Park 520m. She goes quick early and may well cross the inside division to lead and cause some problems for those drawn inside her.

Best Value Bet: Khaleesi's Jewel (Race 8) – SCRATCHED

This strikingly all-white girl took some time off after a very good second here back in October. There, she showed explosive early pace but ran out of steam on the home turn and was gunned down by a Finn Zipping dog. Since returning she has been working through her distances nicely, culminating in a nice second in her first 500m since at . She has only had the outside box twice in her career and has a win and a third for her trouble. If she shows the pace she did here back in October, she will cross this field and may well stack them up. She will need a touch of luck, but if they mix behind her and she can run around the 30.1 mark, she may just give a massive sight at massive odds.
