Wentworth Park greyhound tips & quaddie picks | Saturday 1/10/22

Wentworth Park preview

Saturday night is set to sizzle at Wentworth Park with 10 top-quality greyhound races set down for decision. With the top Chase greyhounds chasing 2 glory up the highway at The Gardens, we are glad to have so many good greyhounds set to compete in a great staying race, a quality 3rd/4th grade event which is worthy of a Group race final, and a couple of nice restricted-class finals. As always, we will do our best to help you find some winners – and hopefully at nice odds.

Best Bet – Zipping Orlando (Race 9)

What can you say about this son of and Zipping Dharma that hasn't already been said in the last few weeks? He is now eight from eight and there is no reason he won't keep the streak alive this weekend. He is coming off a dominant win in the classic Young Stars Series here, running the hands off the clock along the way. He gets a nice box down close to the fence and he has a vacant box outside of him. He will be a short price but it will be a wonderful way to get some bank or to anchor your multis through. The Finn kennels have been flying of late and will be looking to have another big night here.

Danger: is as capable as any dog on her night, and with a small field and the vacant box inside her, she might just find herself sitting on Orlando's tail going through the first turn. The query is whether she can run the sort of time that would be required to beat him these days.

Next Best Bet – Punter's Bandit (Race 5)

Andy Lord and the greyhound lovers at Punters Hq have got themselves another very handy dog with Punter's Bandit. In her heat win here 10 days back she did a little bit wrong early but used box one to perfection to destroy the field by 12 lengths. She then backed that up three nights later to use box one to perfection again to win the consolation of the Young Stars Classic in good time. Now she drops back into this restricted 1-3 wins final race with a record of four wins and three placings from nine starts, so she cannot possibly be better placed. The only concern is that she can take a few strides to wind up her big motor, which could make her a sitting shot for some trouble from this awkward draw, but she's more likely to be the punter's pal tonight than their Bandit.

Danger: has a personal best of 29.7 seconds here and, if he recaptures that form, would certainly be able to give Punter's Bandit a run for her money, especially if he spears out and holds his rival away from the fence.

Best Value Bet – Jill Doo (Race 1)

Darryl Wilson, who is a very clever trainer, has two runners in this opening event and either of them could win this race, but we are siding with on the basis of her slick run at The Gardens last time out. Wilson has chosen to come to town and miss the very good dogs that have headed , which in itself is an astute move. This girl shows very good pace in her races and has contested non-graded sprints, so you know she can motor early. Hopefully, she can cross the inside two dogs – who can be tardy, especially the two dog – and lead, and if she does that He's Grand and her kennel mate Pretty Boy Do may just run up the track at the first turn and provide her with some cover and a chance to escape through the pen. She was double-figure odds in early markets, and that represents great value on a dog that may well lead all the way tonight.

Best Roughie – Brindabella Boy (Race 6)

In a race where there will be an odds-on favourite in Cawbourne Magic, there are two outstanding value bets. Believe So has spent the last few weeks chasing the staying superstar and has been powering to the line each week and will be right in this with an ounce of luck. However, with early odds north of $30, Brindabella Boy has to be our roughie pick. He has been working through the distances and grades down south and doing it quite well, and while Wenty Park is a completely different barrel of monkeys, the pace and endurance he has shown in those wins has been quite impressive. Damian Cormie is not a name everyone will know, but he is more than capable of having this boy primed to ping the lids and lead early in this race. If that happens, then you will get a massive sight for your money.
