Wentworth Park greyhound tips & quaddie | Saturday, April 8

Wentworth Park preview

Easter Saturday has finally arrived, and with it comes the best night of chasing on the greyhound calendar – the Golden Easter Egg meeting at . Headquarters will play host to 10 races, including a Listed race, three Group 3 races and two Group 1 events. There is also the Ron Arnold Masters final and a couple of superb support races worthy of Group finals. Get to the track to see the best canine athletes in the country go around, and to see who will be crowned the 2023 Golden Easter Egg champion. Good luck to all greyhounds and connections, and let's hope we can find you a few winners.

Best Bet: Mortified (Race 2)

Chris O'Brien will send one of NSW's best chasers around in a very good free-for-all which would be worthy of any of the Group races on the card. Mortified has had no luck in all of the major races she has contested and she showed just how good she is, last Saturday night when she began like she can, off box one and destroyed a good quality field in a time that no other dog could better and that only could get close to. She was knocked down in the final of the in Victoria and again here in the Egg heats. Hopefully she will show everyone that needs any convincing, once again just how unlucky she is not to have a Group race title under her belt. She just manages to miss the kick ever so slightly in those big races and you can't make any mistakes against the best there is. She handles the wide draws well and is three from four from box eight and will be advantaged by both Asiram and Showman Jack being average beginners who will be looking for the fence early. She deserves a group race and hopefully she gets one someday and gets some compensation in this race.

Danger: Showman Jack
He was a slashing victor in the Country Classic middle distance series netting his connections $125k. He is a seasoned top class chaser but will need luck. He is not a great beginner and loves the fence and if he finds the fence without trouble early and gets a clean crack at them he can do anything on his night.

Next Best: Palawa King (Race 6)

Jack Smith will rug up Palawa King in the Group 3 final. This boy is probably the strongest finisher in greyhound racing at present over the sprint distance. He has a 29.62 personal best around here which he ran in the heats, being beaten a length by Tommy Kade. However he is the sort of dog where you have to and say your prayers, going around the first turn due to him being an average beginner. He has only had box one once in his career and that was an uber-impressive 600m win at Richmond. He should get some room to move early if stays out of his way. He should be able to use box one to hold off the rest of the field other than the speed merchants and if he can find a position on the rails about four or five lengths of them heading down the back straight can round them up and give them windburn as he races past them.

Danger: Tommy Kade
Tommy was simply too fast for Palawa King in the heats. He won't get things all his own way early in this however with Rockstar Heeney outside him and pressuring him. However if he does nail the start and hold the lead through the first corner, Tommy is more than capable of running the times that would put the backmarkers out of play.

Best Value: Zipping Whiskey (Race 5)

There is no doubt that Cawbourne Magic is the best stayer in the country at present , but odds on and average beginners are not conducive to good punting in Group 1 finals. Zipping Whiskey is drawn to get the perfect run in this race. Ritza Piper and Bandit Jane on either side of him will begin fast and should battle for the lead. The four, five and six will all show early pace and something will have to give. Hopefully Zipping Whiskey should be sitting hard up against the rails right behind them. He should prove too strong for those leaders but the problem will be if Cawbourne Magic follows him through and misses the early trouble. He is an improving greyhound who has only had twenty-two career starts and at the double figure early odds looks the best roughie on the card tonight.
