Blue Lorian & Smooth Fancy National Champions for 2010
The Grand Finals of the TattsBet.com Nationals were run Saturday night at Angle Park in front of a large crowd.
With the weather being nearly ideal for August, patrons witnessed two outstanding races. Victory going to NSW in both the Distance and Sprint Finals.
The TattsBet.com National Distance Final was won by Blue Lorian, trained by Peter Whye. The stayer added another Group race victory to his collection after grabbing early leader Sitka mid race.
He then went on to score a 4 length victory over Satanic Cash from SA and Sitka from Tas.
The runner-up was a big effort as he got checked backed to last early and was still second last coming off the back.
Favourite Dashing Corsair (Qld) was away only fairly and was always mid-race.
TattsBet.com Distance Final (731m):
- 1st Blue Lorian (NSW) – Peter Whye $5.50
- 2nd Satanic Cash (SA) – Bob Isaacson $2.90
- 3rd Sitka (Tas) – Mick Louth $15.00
- Unpl. Fav Dashing Corsair $2.45
- Time 43.01 (4.23, 16.01, 29.40, 13.61)
- Margins 4 L x 1-3/4 L
In The TattsBet.com Sprint Final, It was the Anthony Azzopardi trained Smooth Fancy which finished too strongly for favourite Cosmic Chief. Cosmic Chief looked the winner when he worked to second round the first turn and hit the lead off the back.
However Smooth Fancy was right behind him and had too much left to be held out.
The winner ran a very slick 29.49 for the 515m.
Tasmanian Tombstone Jack made ground from back in the field for a nice third.
Locals Tomic and Where’s Pancho, tangled in the run to the first turn and were never a chance.
WA Fancy, Pedrosa was away well from a wide draw to be prominent, but faded.
