Boody’s San Marco booms in Bundaberg Anniversary Cup upset

San Marco flipped the script in the final of the Cup at on Monday, coming through to upset the favourite in the straight.

In the highlight of the 10-race card, the 3.75-length win by the x Simply Elite product came in race eight, run over 531m.

The David Plummer-trained Durham was a heavily backed favourite after finishing in the money in her last eight starts, including three victories.

Jumping from the No.2 box, she shot to the lead accompanied by kennelmate , but it was the -trained dog that would go on to take the win.

“He went good,” Boody said.

“Nice dog up this way and has had no luck his last couple of runs but was drawn perfectly today with Durham in the 2 he looked like he could get the right run.”

The owner and manager of CG Syndications, , said that connections were confident before the run.

“We were relatively confident heading into the race as he trialled well over the 531m a few months back when Bundaberg reopened,” he said.

“Once the box draw came out, we couldn't have asked for a better draw with the main speed factor, Durham drawn inside.

“He looked to get a good cart into the race and that's what happened. He won well as expected.

“He will have a light week now and race next Wednesday at Rockhampton in the Colleen Jackson Memorial along with kennelmate Dixie Gambles.”

In the other highlighted race, the Anniversary Sprint Final, lined up over the 460m as a $2.10 favourite.

Jumping from box three, he got out to trail the leader in Genius You (5) before passing through to hit the lead with Roger Ring on his outside.

The -trained favourite proved too strong on the rail to come away with the win.

The Fernando Bale x Nangar Miss chaser made it 19 wins from 53 career starts and continued his winning year after taking out the Group 3 in March.

Roger Ring from the Plummer kennel finished second with the Lorraine Isles-trained rounding out the placings.
