It's not the size of the dog in the fight; it's the size of the fight in the dog.
He may not be your typical stud dog with a glittering resume of group wins and track records, but something that any breeder desires is the attitude and determination that a special group of greyhounds possess. They never give up and look as though they would chase through a brick wall to get what they want.
The recently retired Adam Meway who was trained by leading Sydney trainer Anthony Azzopardi was all heart as he came exceedingly close to several group win races and with a bit of luck either way could easily have a collection of trophies to his name. A true fairy tale story, Adam Brandt and his syndicate from Newcastle couldn't have asked for a better first dog being first time owners in the industry and his third placing in the 2011 Golden Easter Egg brought the house down with a sea of blue shirts to cheer home the dog they call ‘Bullet'. Starting from the difficult box four he shone behind superstar sprinter Radley Bale who claimed the race in near record time. Brandt couldn't believe he got such a dog his first go;
“He wasn't a bad first dog, we had so much fun he just couldn't put it together in the big races but that's racing”.
Not disgracing himself in any of his 69 starts, he was one of the most consistent performers racing, winning 20 times and placing on 24 occasions that included; 4th in the 2011 Group One National Derby and a finalist in the 2012 Group Two Gosford Gold Cup. Notable for his early speed he was extremely versatile winning from every box and recording personal bests at nine different tracks including; Unitbet Gardens (29.56), Maitland (25.29), Sandown (29.51) and Wentworth Park (29.91).
The beautifully bred son of American import sire Ea's Itzaboy and Full Reign's next step is to make an impact on the Australian breeding scene injecting a dose of American blood that is becoming increasingly popular. Yahoo Omar is the latest American sire to make his presence in Australia, having been the choice of sire for proven producer Bananarama and Zambola Bale, Brandt agreed his bloodlines will give breeders what they're looking for.
“His American bloodlines will give breeders a great option for import sires at a very reasonable price. American sires have been successful in Australia so there's no reason why he can't succeed”.
Full Reign has also produced several handy performers from her first three litters including; Steadfast Patch, a short course specialist who recorded personal bests of; 22.71 at Richmond, 17.99 at Cranbourne and 16.99 at Traralgon, Full Embargo (winner of 13 races) and Steadfast Milly whose career was unfortunately cut short after three starts but sizzled around Dapto in a personal best of 30.12 by seven lengths. Full Reign's third litter are currently 18 months old to another import sire Droopys Maldini, her offspring are evidence that the introduction of import blood into Australian broodbitches is proving a very successful combination.
Ea's Itzaboy impact in Australia is gaining momentum not only producing Adam Meway but Bananarama who was a multiple Wentworth Park winner and mother of; Lord Rama (Maitland 25.49), Squashed Banana (winner of 21 races including city wins), Let ‘em Drop who is trained by Adam (Betchoice Gardens 22.64, Wagga 18.48) currently has 10 wins from 20 starts with certainly more to come. The entire litter were blessed with exceptional early speed.
