The sire of boom youngster Disraeli has found a new home amongst the greyhound stud ranks.
Andy Palmer, the former dual Bendigo 545m track record holder has been placed in the astute hands of leading Victorian studmaster Bob Douglas, who stood Bombastic Shiraz at the height of his popularity.
And the move couldn’t come at a better time for the under rated stud dog. From just the one litter to race Andy Palmer has thrown one of Victoria’s most exciting young prospects in training in Disraeli. Disraeli comes from Andy Palmer’s very first mating to the Just The Best bitch, Redburst.
Disraeli, who has so far won five of his nine starts, set everyone on notice at his sixth start when bolting in at Bendigo at his sires preferred 545m distance, winning by nearly ten lengths in 30.81, just four lengths outside Proven Alias’ current 30.56 track record.
To confirm his class, Disraeli won a 600m event at The Meadows and then went within two and a half lengths of The Meadows 600m track record running 34.23.
From others in the litter to race Red Hot Andy has won twice from seven starts, and Kid Palmer impressed on debut winning in 30.33 at The Meadows at his only start to date.
Andy Palmer, who is arguably Trendy Leigh’s best son to race in Australia, has the pedigree and racetrack ability to warrant siring fast strong greyhounds too. As well as breaking the Bendigo 545m track record on two separate occasions running 31.03, the winner of 27 races set the post to post record at The Meadows at 24.43, posted fast wins at Sandown (29.54) and The Meadows (29.94, 34,35) and won the Group 3 Queensland Cup and made finals of the Group 1 Paws Of Thunder and Group 2 Sandown Shootout.
Now standing with Bobby Douglas at his Heathcote stud in central Victoria, Andy Palmer has seen a tremendous burst in popularity and is sure to attract many astute breeders looking to add speed, chase and strength in to their damlines.
With other unproven stud dogs standing for over $3000,Andy Palmer is probably the most economically priced proven stud dog on the market, standing at stud at just $880 for natural matings and $660 for frozen semen.
