Brisbane’s Best Greyhounds To Produce Fireworks On NYE
Now confirmed Brisbane Greyhound of the Year Premier Chief will take on Group Two winning greyhound High Earner, emerging speedster Black attack and the in-form Yikes in the race.
While Premier Chief finished behind Yikes on Monday night, the second placing was enough to secure his spot as Brisbane’s top dog for 2009.
Yiles ran an impressive race to just edge out Premier Chief from box three, but will have a much harder task on Thursday night from box five.
However, Christine Robartson‘s other top performer High Earner has drawn box one and if last week is anything to go by will be extremely short with the bookies.
Premier Chief will jump from box two, which will be to his avantage, but High Earner is almost certain to take the lead and will make for a very interesting finish.
Gary Moore‘s emerging greyhound Black Attack should be in the running also after winning last Mondat night with a very smart first sectional of 5.72.
Black Attack has drawn box four in this race to add to the difficulty of this Best Eight competition.
One to keep a close eye on in this also is Side Cutter from his favoured box eight.
Side Cutter has shown impressive form from box eight, and will be a looming chance in this race.
In other racing, last week’s favourite in the Big Dog Challenger, Santino Marella drops back in distance and subsequently class, starting from box two in the Sky Racing fifth grade 520m.
Santino Marella didn’t jump cleanly last week and struggled to get clear on the second turn in the 600m race, and will be a top chance in this race.
His best time over the 520m is a very smart 30.08 from earlier this year and he will be looking to finish 2009 on a high.
However, one to keep an eye on in this race is Aston Hannah, trained by Glenda Dart and owned by greyhound enthusiast and game meat entrepreneur Ray Borda.
Aston Hannah seems like he is on the cusp of a best win and will have every chance from box one on Thursday night.
In distance racing, the Give Me Five Best Eight over 710m is sure to produce another thrilling finish with Big Dog Challenge (600m) winner Miss Jersey stepping back up in distance against Count The Dough and Miss Amy Jade.
Count The Dough has been very good lately and will reap the benefits from a vacant inside box, jumping from box six.
A standout performance last week however was Des Pollock‘s Miss Amy Jade who made a comeback to form after racing erraticly over the past few months.
Miss Amy Jade looked like being one of Queensland’s top stayers earlier in the year but had an unfortunate follow up campaign to her early wins.
However, she came back in top form running a blistering 41.82 to win a fifth grade over the distance last Thursday night.
