Cardiology to represent NSW in National Distance Championship
EXCITING New South Wales stayer Cardiology will get the chance to mix it with the best in Australia after winning the NSW Distance Championship final at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.
Sent out as the $2.10 favourite off box one, Cardiology came into the final having won her heat in 42.11 the week prior – a new personal best over the track and trip.
Beginning well from the inside, the daughter of Where’s Pedro and Amnesia was able to work her way to the front in the early stages and from there she made it a one act affair, stretching out to score by two lengths at the finish in a respectable 42.41.
Miss Foxy Lee, which gained a start as first reserve following the scratching of Runway Bono, ran a top race, weaving her way through the field to finish a fast finishing second, with consistent stayer Whittaker filling the trifecta back in third spot.
Cardiology has now won 14 of her 30 career starts with an additional eight minor placings, including five from seven over the testing half-mile at Wentworth Park.
The win assured her of a start in the Group 1 National Distance Championship, with the remainder of the field made up of the winners from the finals held in all other states, which is set to be run and won at Angle Park on August 27.
Whittaker will also head to South Australia to represent NSW, having qualified as the AGRA wildcard runner which is awarded to the highest ranked stayer to have made its state final but not won.
