Coleman’s Cardiology on track for McKenna Memorial success

RISING New South Wales stayer Cardiology will be aiming to break through for a victory against some of the best chasers in the country when she heads south to contest a heat of the 2 at Sandown Park on Thursday night.

A regally bred daughter of Where's Pedro and Amnesia, the trained bitch had no luck when tackling the Group 1 and Albion Park series' recently, however since retuning home she has been in terrific form, winning two of her past three at Richmond (35.36) and Bulli (33.36).

With her kennel star racing high on confidence, Coleman made the decision to head towards the McKenna Memorial with limited options in NSW.

“I decided to tackle the big races early to give her a bit of experience and because I am finding it hard to get a run with her in NSW at the moment,” Coleman told Australian Racing Greyhound.

“Hopefully doing a bit of travelling now will pay dividends in the future.”

Cardiology has drawn box four in the third of five heats of the McKenna Memorial on Thursday night, with the 27-month-old bitch up against a classy field including Margins (box one), Shared Equity (box three) and Sausage Sizzle (box six).

While Coleman concedes her chaser is facing a tough task, she remains hopeful that Cardiology will be able to put her best paws forward.

“At this stage in her career she is still learning and she is up against a lot of dogs with age and experience under their belts.

“The dog in the three box (Shared Equity) is a and it likes to use the track a little bit so I am hoping she can miss it early otherwise she might be in a bit of trouble.

“The bend start is another worry, but she can begin well on her night and she definitely has a motor.

“Hopefully she can get up near the lead early because I think she could run some time if given the chance.”

Cardiology has won 11 of her 25 starts to date including a fast 42.14 victory at , while Coleman also has high hopes for her litter sister, Where Art Thou, who won seven from 17 before being stuck by injury.

“I sent Where Art Thou to Melbourne after the Easter Egg to have a few looks at Sandown ahead of the Cup, but she blew a pin muscle.

“She is back exercising now and I am hoping to be able to put her up the straight soon.

“Personally I think they are both as good as each other, one is just a front runner and the other comes from behind.

“Fingers crossed in three or four months I will be able to travel with both of them.”

The Where's Pedro x Amnesia litter look to be very exciting, leaving Coleman delighted having bred them herself.

and I purchased a bitch called Forgetful Lucy who we raced together and from her we bred Amnesia who is the mother of Cardiology's litter.

“It's funny because the mother of Forgetful Lucy was Sensation Lee and she couldn't run 400, but the line continues to throw dogs which could run all day.

“It is always a proud moment when they win knowing I have bred them, even when it's a low grade race it still makes me very proud.

“I am very happy with them, I put my heart and soul into them and now they are paying me back for all my efforts.”

Having only turned two in March, Coleman is also hoping Cardiology and Where Art Thou will continue to improve as they mature as race dogs.

“You don't think there is much improvement in them just because they are going so good, but naturally dogs tend to get better with age and they have only just turned two.

“It's quite scary – not that I think they will get any faster but with experience I think their habits will get a bit better and they will improve within themselves.

“If they can improve that little bit extra they will be right up there with the best of them, but even if they don't I am still very happy with them and what they have done.”
