Coursing Stalwarts Enjoy The Best Of Vics First Day
The start of the meeting was delayed until the fog lifted. The weather soon improved and by this time our meeting was well underway.
The Tougher's from Warragul, the Collyer's from East Coburg, Bill Elllis made the trip up from Rosebud West, Lionel Kraemer from Cranbourne South, N. Stanley from Portland, Peter Grice from Bena and Jim Chircop from Heathcote.
The first meeting of the year was a great days coursing and there were many close courses. The main event was keenly a contested final between Samemma of the red and and last year's Derby Winner Typhoon Harry of the White. Samemma is black bitch whelped November 2005 whilst Typhoon Harry is a Black day whelpt Februay 2007. Samemma “flew” the slips. Typhoon Harry tried very hard but could not reign Samemma's beatufil slips start.
There were som new stars that graced the track like Black Hummer winning the dog puppy and Voodoo Oak winning the bitch puppy. Both puppies coursed very keenly and won their stakes in fine style. Then there were some old grand campaigners like Transadler who is a December 2003 whelping, he proved that age is no barrier when he ran up in the All Aged Stake.
This was a great meeting and many thanks should go to the great staff at Healesville who volunteered the time and effort. The success is that's to you, so give youtslves a pat on the back.
We're off to Benalla next week (7th June,) if you did not get a start this week (we did have 120 nominations) give Benalla a go. They have excellent facilities, a drag lure, and great grub.
