Napalm Red Wins NCA Derby & Well Scarlett Wins NCA Oaks At Melton Coursing

After completing two runs yesterday and then another Sunday morning we were left with just 2, Al Forty Three off the red collar for and Napalm Red for the Mousetrap Syndicate trained by Brett Mackie from Tooradin.

It was a fantastic final very close which is what we all love to see, Napalm Red proved to good in the run to line to take top honours in this year's Derby. It was a great training feat for Brett as this is the only time he has ever had a runner in the Derby, so to win it made it extra special. There will be lots of smiling faces in Tooradin this week.

In the Oaks it was a slightly different story with 25 of our states bitch puppies set to contest the running of the 2012 Oaks, which meant to win the two finalists, would have to complete 5 runs over the 2 days. The competition was great and the girls did not leave anything on the track.

Well Scarlett didn't let her team down she ran a fantastic race in the final and came from behind to win which was a fantastic effort considering that there was a undecided course in her Semi final run which meant that she had complete and win a re- run of her semi final, so technically she completed ran 5 and ¾ runs over the two days.

The Derby Consolation was taken out by Not Gunnamatta for Bernie Ryan with the runner up Sundew Johnny for Leigh Mitchell another big effort for the young dogs.

The Oaks Consolation No. 1 was won by Cyclone Ruby trained by Steve Edgar who proved too good on the day for Tony Grimmond's Burberry. Oaks Consolation No. 2 saw head home to Portland with a winner when Nurse Akali was first past the post over Full of Bubbles.

The Western Saws All Aged Stake saw line honours go to Dragon Lord for Rob Colpoys who was too good today for Jim Maye's Connemara Fire, we really hope to see you all at contesting this year's TGS at the end of this month.

The Maiden events were won by Baltic Typhoon trained by D Crocker of Strathfieldsaye, Mr. Chow for , Tarneit Flyer for Brian Menzel and last but not least Rage on Rondo for Colin Dalton.

This rounded up another great weekends coursing and on all accounts it seemed that good fun as usual was had by all.

Next week remember the meeting that was scheduled to be run at the Victoria Coursing Club – Newstead on Sunday 12th August has been transferred to Lang Lang. This will be a great opportunity for trainers to give their charges a look at the Lang Lang track before the running of this year's Main Event the 2012 Waterloo Cup.
