Daley’s Remarkable Run – One Game of Football and Four Finals

New South Wales’ win in the opening game of this year’s series was the start of a memorable run for prominent Northern River’s owner and Murwillumbah Primary School Principle Les Daley. A prominent junior rugby league contributor in NSW, Daley was wrapped in how the boys in blue performed when winning last Wednesday night. In the days that followed his greyhounds have been on an amazing run, with four of his greyhounds qualifying for finals in three different states. Not bad for an owner with just a few greyhounds.

Group 1 Macro Meats Albion Park Gold Cup

The successful run with his sizzling speedsters started last Thursday night at Albion Park in the heats of the 1 Macro Meats Gold Cup where his future staying star Mrs. Thursday saluted at just her 12th race start. The young stayer showed enormous potential in her heat win as she beat staying greats like Irma Bale, Destini Fireball, Czar and Mist Opportunity to qualify for her first Group 1 final. The black April 2011 daughter of – Nikita Grove has been a revelation and from her limited starts has the envious record of 5 wins and 6 placing’s.

For Daley, it’s the third successful pup he has purchased out of Nikita Grove from breeder Jeffrey Crawford. Amazingly each of these offspring have been from different sires and litters.

The first success was the well performed stayer Piping Hot (Bit Chilli – Nikita Grove) who won close to $50,000 in prizemoney for Daley. Trained by his close friends John and Glenda Dart with whom he forms a lethal combination, Piping Hot won 6 races and was placed in 12 of her 28 career starts and was a wonderful performer over the staying journey. Now retired, Piping Hot has moved to the breeding barn where Daley hopes she can continue her success. With a litter to Mogambo at the breakers now and pups to on the ground, she looks the right type of bitch to produce race track quality performers.

Geelong Heat and Final Friday 14/06/2013 – 5th Grade Buxton Real Estate 400m – Race 6

The second successful chaser purchased was Miss Mercantile (El Galo – Nikita Grove). Miss Mercantile started her racing with the Darts and is now in Victoria with Wayne Vassallo.

‘She started racing around Albion Park and Lismore but we felt she needed a change so we sent her south to race where she has been going really well’ Les said.

So well that this night she lines up in a 5th grade final at Geelong. After a strong second place in her heat last week she looks the one to beat this Friday night over the 400m Geelong trip. From 34 starts she has won 9 and been placed in another 9 with close to $15,000 in prize money.

Mrs. Thursday continues the run of success that Daley has had from the Nikita Grove line.

‘I’ve purchased all of them as pups and I really believe that success on the race track is due to how they are reared. I have 3 acres here and try to do all my own rearing’ Les said.

‘What I can’t rear here I send to – who I believe is the best greyhound rearer in the country and who does a great job with rearing pups.’

Mrs. Thursday lines up in this Thursday’s Macro Meats Gold Cup Group 1 final from box 1. Despite being faced with seasoned campaigner such as Irma Bale, Starliner, Bell Haven, and Proven Impala, a win would not shock those that have followed this young chasers career and know the ability that she possesses. With an amazing finishing ability Daley hopes that she will lob behind the early leaders and be too strong at the finish.

‘As a pup she would run all day and I knew that she had ability early on. I told John Dart that if we were patient we would have something special. She is just the baby in the final and from box 1 we hope that she can take a sit on the fence and not get knocked around.’ Les said.

Whatever happens in the final she is surely a greyhound to follow and a greyhound going places!

The Tweed Heads Galaxy (Final Past Monday 10/06/2013)

The dynamic Daley and Dart duo continued their success over the past weekend as their improving greyhound Pierino was successful in the $20,000 to the winner . After being second in his heat on Saturday, the son of Where’s Pedro – Magic Caper’s was able to qualify for the Monday afternoon final being one of the fastest second placegetters.

Drawn box 2 in the rich final, the 34 kilogram black December 2010 whelping was too strong in the final after taking a beautiful rails run behind early leader and defending champing Chasing Glory scoring by a length on the line in a respectable 23.78.

Chasing Glory held on well for second narrowly beating Victorian Arizona Dozer third. It was a wonderful training performance by the Dart’s as Pierino was on the comeback from an injury enforced layoff. With 19 starts for 7 wins and 7 placing’s the first place takes the black dogs earnings to over $26,000.

Tweed Heads Racing – Novice Heats (Final Saturday 15/06/2013)

Saturday racing at Tweed Heads also featured 1-4 wins heats for greyhounds over the Galaxy trip of 420 m. With 4 heats the first two from each heat would progress to the final this Saturday. The Daley / Dart combination again merged as Tour Leader (Premier Fantasy – Rumble Amour) finished second in his heat behind What A World to qualify for the final this Saturday. Remarkably this made it the fourth finalist to qualify for a feature event for Daley in ten days of greyhound racing.

With a dream run currently in progress it is a fitting reward for a devoted enthusiast who has committed a great deal of time and effort into greyhound racing over the past 20 years. What sets Daley apart is that unlike many owners he still attends the majority of race meetings to watch his dogs perform live. With the triumphant streak he is currently enjoying, why wouldn’t he want to be a part of the atmosphere and action trackside to see his pride and joy emulated into four powerful paws of chasing tenacity. With his passion for greyhounds shining through Daley is set to enjoy a fantastic ride in the future.
