Damek Named Tasmanian Greyhound Of The Year 2010

The Launceston Greyhound Racing Club in conjunction with hosted the Country Club Tasmania Launceston Cup and Tasracing’s Greyhound Awards Presentation Dinner at The TOTE Racing Centre on Saturday Night 12 February 2011.

At the function to announce the winners attended by 200 guests, was named the 2010 Tasmanian .

Damek, owned by Peter Phillips of Copping and trained by Eileen Thomas of Invermay, won the award after winning 23 races from his 25 Tasmanian starts during the year.

Other award winners announced were:

  • Leading Trainer – Anthony Bullock (161 winners for the year)
  • Leading Owner – Peter Phillips (55 wins during the year)
  • Most Consistent Greyhound – Damek
  • Leading Broodbitch – World’s Finest (Owned by Peter Phillips) – (World’s Finest’s progeny won 55 races during 2010)
  • Leading Sire – Where’s Pedro (Owned by Tony Lockett in New South Wales) – (Where’s Pedro’s progeny won 207 races in Tasmania during 2010)

TASMANIAN GREYHOUND OF THE YEAR 2010 – DAMEK

The Greyhound of the Year Selection is appointed to determine one greyhound to be named as Greyhound of the Year.

Having won 23 of his Tasmanian starts and being placed second in the State National Sprint Championship with his only unplaced Tasmanian run being in the final of the Wrest Point Thousand, the Panel this year had their task made easy with the unanimous decision to name Damek as the Greyhound of the Year for 2010.

Damek is owned by Peter Phillips of Copping and was trained by Eileen Thomas of Invermay.

Amongst his major wins were:

• A Heat and the Final of thetote.com.au Maiden Thousand at Hobart.
• A Heat and the Final of the Launceston Veterinary Hospital Breeders Classic at Launceston
• A Heat and the Final of the Shaw Contracting at Launceston
• A Heat of the Betfair State National Sprint Championship at Launceston
• A Heat and the Final of The Mercury at Hobart
• The Wally Lake Memorial at Hobart
• A Heat and the Final of the Betfair Tasmanian at Hobart
• A Heat of the Wrest Point Hobart Thousand

He broke the track record at Launceston twice in April and then in October he broke the track record at Hobart only to come out in November and break it again.

LEADING TASMANIAN TRAINER 2010 – ANTHONY BULLOCK

This award is determined on a points system of five for a win, two for a second and 1 for a third.

Anthony Bullock of Exeter won the award with 161 winners, 176 seconds and 133 thirds amassing a total of 1290 points, with 1007 points and Gary Johnson with 804 points.

Anthony had 42 greyhounds win the 161 races with his most prolific winners being:

This award is determined on the number of races won by an individual or partnership during the year.

Peter Phillips from Copping took out that award with 55 winners last year.

This award is based on Tasmanian performances on a points system of five for a win, two for a second and one for a third.

Damek with a record of 23 wins and 1 second from 25 Tasmanian starts, accumulated 117 points to earn him the title of Tasmania’s Most Consistent Greyhound for 2010.

World’s Finest won the award with her progeny winning 55 races during 2010.
