El Grand Senor Rises To The Top Of The Rankings Table

At the end of October, El Grand Senor sat in eighth place on the Australian Greyhound Racing Associations monthly rankings, which are calculated by points being allocated to a dog that competes in a group final based on their finishing position.

In the space of one month, the Carolyn Jones trained superstar now sits top of the tree with 210 points, eight points clear of Reg Kay's with 202 points and rounding out the top three is distance star Blue Lorian with 193 points who just etched out by one point.

It seems the greyhound world has found its next big attraction with El Grand Senor's statistics just as impressive as his group victories thus far. In October he claimed the illustrious group one Top Gun, and in November he added his third group one win to his trophy cabinet after an unusual moderate start he mustered his early speed and took the lead heading around the first turn to extend the winning margin to just over six lengths and recorded an impressive 29.55. He is now just one group one win away from being eligible for the Australian Greyhound Racing Hall of Fame.

By Where's Pedro out of Elgrando Gold, the 38kg black dog has an unbelievable turn of early speed for such a large greyhound. This is where he had made his mark blowing away his rivals with stunning early sections around the two turn circuits of Victoria. Bred by his owner and trainer Carolyn Jones, his dam Elgrando Gold was a classy performer in her own right, running second in final in 2004 and winning heats of the Crown Classic in 2006 and the in 2007.

Elgrando Gold is also the sister of group one bitch Sweet Claudia who made Laurels final in 2006. Jones seems to be blessed with bloodlines that continue to keep on producing and this will create a buzz of excitement when El Grand Senor eventually goes to stud.

In the breeding rankings for November, Surf Lorian's progeny again continues to dominate the Australian group races surging clear of second placegetter Bombastic Shiraz by a staggering 288 points taking his total to 1192. The big mover this month was Where's Pedro who jumped from fifth spot to third, largely thanks to El Grand Senor's successful month at group one level.

The now deceased Go Wild Teddy claimed the other group one for November with So Seductive for producing an amazing start to finish display, capturing the Carnival Cup over metres at Park in 41.90.

Despite Blue Lorian failing to notch up a group win to his name in the month of November, his dam, Winsome Bluebird still holds first position on the broodbitches rankings. She is now just one point ahead of Rosemary Bale who grabbed some points when her evergreen son finished second behind So Seductive in the Bold Trease Carnival Cup.

With only one month left for current and past stars and producers to grab points, it will be right down to the wire to see who is crowned the best of the best for 2010.
