Fallen Zorro Rewrites Record Books

Chinatown Lad & Fallen Zorro After Their Sandown Cup Quinella
Tasmanian star stayers, Chinatown Lad and have taken Australian staying races by storm over the past four months filling the quinella in the previous two one races, the Cup and Albion Park Gold Cup, with Chinatown Lad victorious on both occasions.

At Launceston on Monday night once again the pair finished first and second in the Tasmanian final, but with only the winner progressing to Sydney for the Rapid National Grand Final at on August 30, it will be Fallen Zorro out of her brother's shadow to fly the Tassie flag and hopefully break through for her first group one victory.

The pair's trainer, has always stated that there is not much between the pair, with only Chinatown Lad's better early speed allowing him a cleaner run in the races.

However once Fallen Zorro found the front on Monday night, it was “game, set and match” according the Glenorchy mentor.

“I always thought Wentworth Park would suit Fallen Zorro better (than Chinatown Lad) and on her night she's as good as any chaser in the country, so I'm not disappointed to be leading her out in Sydney,” Shane Whitney said.

Whitney added he would like to see Wentworth Park track record holder Miagi also progress to the Rapid National Grand Final on August 30.

“Miagi's the track record holder and the best going around if he's fit and in the big races you want to test yourself against the best.”

Miagi was regarded as the country's best stayer before an injury enforced lay-off, a tag which now lies with the Tasmanian's.

In only his second run back, Miagi missed the start, but showed tremendous speed to whip around the field and go on to win in the fastest time of the three heats of the NSW Championship.

The NSW series continues on Saturday night at Wentworth Park, with the State Finals for both the sprint and distance, with the first race is at 7.30pm.

The first two from the NSW state finals will go through to the $50,000 to the winner Grand Finals of the and Distance Championships at Sydney's famous Wentworth Park circuit on Saturday, August 30, hosted by the NSW .
