Great Chase Finalist Positive Swab Inquiry Finally Heard
Outa There was a shock ommision from the 2008 Great Chase series final, after the intial “A” sample came back positive and GRV Stewards disqualified the greyhound from competing in the rich Great Chase series Final.
At the inquiry GRV Stewards heard evidence from Mr. Geoffrey Mitchell (Trainer), Mr. C. Scott (GRV Steward), Dr. J. Vine (RASL), Dr. A. Smith (Veterinary Surgeon) and one other licensed person.
After hearing the evidence, Stewards charged Mr. Geoffrey Mitchell with breach of GAR83(2)(3) (as operating in 2008) in that in that he did fail to present the greyhound ‘Outa There' free of any drug for an Event at the Cranbourne GRC)meeting held on 18 November, 2008, given that a post-race urine sample taken from the greyhound indicated the presence of the drug Dexamethasone.
Mr. Geoffrey Mitchell pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Stewards found Mr. Geoffrey Mitchell guilty as charged and suspended his licence for two months (effective midnight 27 February, 2009) and fined him the sum of $1,000.
Stewards officially disqualified ‘Outa There' on 24 November, 2008 from first placing in Event 4 – Great Chase (Heat) – at the Cranbourne GRC meeting on 18 November, 2008 pursuant to GAR83(5) and GRV LRR 44.2 (as operating in 2008).
