Jason Bloomfield Fined $1500 For Morphine Positive Swab

(RQ) today conducted an into the analyst's in respect of a urine sample taken from the registered greyhound Alota Talk which competed in race 7 at the Greyhound Racing Club on 22 February 2014.

After taking evidence from Mr Jason Bloomfield the trainer of Alota Talk, Dr. Bruce Young of the Racing Science Centre, and written evidence from Dr. John Murray, Stewards issued a charge against Mr Bloomfield pursuant to Rule 83 (2)(a), which reads:

“The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound nominated to compete in an event shall present the greyhound free of a prohibited substance.”

The specifics of the charge were that on 22 February 2014, Jason Bloomfield, as the licensed trainer of the greyhound Alota Talk, did present that greyhound to compete in race 7 at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club, when a urine sample taken from the greyhound prior to competing in that race was found, upon analysis, to contain the prohibited substance .

Mr Bloomfield pleaded guilty to the charge.

When considering an appropriate penalty, Stewards took into account Mr. Bloomfield's longstanding in the racing industry, his previously unblemished record, the honest and forthright evidence he provided, his personal circumstances and relevant penalty precedents. Stewards were also mindful of the negative effect charges of this kind have on the good image of the industry and recognise the need for a penalty to serve as a general deterrent. Stewards considered an appropriate penalty to be a fine of $1500.

Under the provisions of Greyhounds Australasia Rule 83 (4) Alota Talk was disqualified from its last placing in race 7 at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club on 22 February 2014.

Mr Bloomfield was advised of his appeal rights.
