Kid Middy Runs Best Of The Casino Rural Traders Sprint Heats

Little separated the four heat winners of the Rural Traders sprint series that were conducted last . Intermittent showers throughout the day made the track very heavy, and it was left to the final heat winner Kid Middy to clock the best time of 23.44. He was where you wanted to be, out in front tossing mud back at his rivals.

Ted Rose Hi also led throughout in his heat running 23.52. He came from box three and won by 5 1/4 lengths. Reserve runner Flying Fatty got the run from box two and got to the front as they went into the back to run 23.46, while Barrel’s Boy clocked the same time, when he was never headed. When the judge called a halt, he was 4 3/4 lengths in front.

This Friday’s final is very open with the box draw maybe determining the winner.

Perseverence certainly paid off for Glen and Jake Northfield when Dayseas Hodgie finally broke through at his twenty second attempt. Beginning well, he was always well placed and took over in the back section before recording a 2 1/2 length win. The time of 28.49 can be ignored in assessing form, as the track was very heavy at that stage.

Murwillumbah trainer took the training honours on the day with Gotta Feeling and King Emmanuel recording victories. Both won in similar ilk, by getting out well and taking up forward positions. In a rare coincidence they ran 27.86, with Gotta Feeling winning by three lengths and King Emmanuel by 3 3/4 lengths.

Chalie Ranga looked well drawn out wide, and he won his maiden in 23.56 for by railing under the leader on the home bend. The other sprint maiden went to Black Kooringa who led all of the way after holding out the other runners to the first turn. He clocked 23.80 for trainer and owner Mitch Northfield.

Veteran conditioner Ray Gatti has been getting to Casino quite a bit lately, and he again won the distance race with Be My Baby. She ran 36.52 in scoring by 3 3/4 lengths. Ray has had a lot of success in these races over the longer trip.
