Kristy Sultana Out For 6 Months For Positive Swab

High profile New South Wales greyhound trainer Kristy Sultana is that state's tenth greyhound trainer to be hauled before over a positive swab to an Anabolic Steroid.

Kristy Sultana has been one of the 's most popular young trainers and has been receiving plenty of attention this year due to the stellar performance of her chasers on the track.

She has also attracted some high profile clients, including Greyhound Racing New South Wales () poster boy, Ben Damon, for whom she trains handy sprinter .

On the 20th May 2009 GHRRA Stewards finalised an into the positive finding of the Anabolic Steroid and its metabolites in the urine sample taken from when it competed at on 28th February 2009.

Boldenone is most commonly found in the Anabolic Steroid Drive, which was a commonly used steroid to keep bitches off season and also increase agressiveness, confidence and chase in timid greyhounds. Its use was effectively banned in racing greyhounds in New South Wales on the 1st July 2008.

Remarkably though, Blue Osti was swabbed after her win on the 21st January 2009 and returned a normal swab.

Between that date and the the run relating to the positive swab, Blue Osti raced on two occassions and had a further Stewards Trial at Launceston for 2 wins and a second.

Again Blue Osti was swabbed after her Launceston Cup Consolation win on the 16th February 2009 and again, as far as we can ascertain, returned a normal or negative swab.

She then returned to Wentworth Park running last, before the winning run related to the positive swab on the 28th February 2009.

The implication being, that if the previous two negative swab samples are to be believed, then Blue Osti had to be administered with the Anabolic Steroid at some point between her winning run on the 16th February 2009 and the 28th February 2009. Given Kristy's experience and that of the whole Sultana family, we at Australian Racing Greyhound find that hard to comprehend.

Trainer Kristy Sultana was charged by GHRRA Stewards with a breach of Rule 83(2)(a) in that she failed to present Blue Osti for racing, drug free, to which she pleaded not guilty, however after further consideration of all evidence Miss Sultana was found in breach of Rule 83(2) and guilty as charged.

GHRRA Stewards disqualified Miss Sultana for 6 months, commencing 20th May 2009 for her breach of Rule 83(2)(a).

Blue Osti was subsequently disqualified from the event.

Kristy Sultana has lodged appeal against her disqualification of 6 months.
