Laurie Healion Memorial Final Won By Finn’s Winsome Gun
Outstanding young galloper Winsome Gun signalled he was a star of the future after another making a clean sweep of the Laurie Healion Memorial series with a brilliant win in the $20,000 to the winner final at The Gardens yesterday (Friday).
The son of Bombastic Shiraz and Winsome Silver jumped straight to the front from box one and gave nothing else a chance by leading all of the way in a sizzling 29.50, two lengths in advance of a gallant Vancouver Kiss, with Devine Nation a further length away in third place.
Trained, owned and bred by the legendary combination of John and Minnie Finn, Winsome Gun is from a long line of superstars. He’s the grandson of Multiple Group winner, Winsome Dollars, making him closely related to record breakers Winsome History and Winsome Lesson as well as Winsome Ashley, who is regarded as one of the best chasers to ever race in New Zealand.
Trainer Minnie Finn was her normal understating self, say of Winsome Gun at the trophy presentation of the Healion Memorial;
“He’s a smart pup who should have a good future”
After three starts, Winsome Gun has banked $21,450, mainly thanks to yesterday’s victory and he follows in the footsteps of other stars of the track that have raced in the Laurie Healion Memorial Series such as Group One National Championship winner, Bit Chili, record breaking bitch, Miss Elly Mint, iron dog, Mandagery Man and the 2009 champion, Lochinvar Marlow.
