Some 20 years on from winning the inaugural Magic Maiden at Wentworth Park, veteran trainer has every reason to feel confident of taking out the final again next Saturday.

That is because of Simply Limelight's incredible victory by almost 16 lengths in the $5840 third semi-final on Wednesday night.

Simply Limelight was simply , the young dog whelped on June 13, 2020 recording a sizzling 29.70 seconds over the 520m journey.

He subsequently drew a tricky number-six box for the final, but Rodgers believes he is good enough to win that race – with $25,000 going to the winner – from anywhere.

“I won this race – the inaugural 2002 Magic Maiden winner with Country Zulu. This dog is a very special dog. He's even more special than that dog,” Rodgers told Australian Racing Greyhound.

“His sister (the favourite Lightnin' Ethics paying $3.10 in the second semi-final) went to the front in the race before and she got checked (and came last in a roughhouse affair).

“But that's racing.

“Hopefully he can win the Magic Maiden final next week.”

Rodgers is a well-respected trainer in the greyhound racing industry because of his vast experience and knowledge of the sport.

But even he is excited about what the future now holds for Simply Limelight, particularly after his stunning performance on Wednesday night.

“The potential for that dog is unbelievable,” he said.

“I've had offers of $150,000 to 180,000 for him. The world is his oyster, as long as he stays sound.

“He's such a calm dog. He can begin and finish well.

“Potentially, the races here can be right up his alley.

“His mother () had 21 starts and won 11.”
