Logan Greyhounds To Hit The Ground Running In Late 2013

In early March the State Government approved the $24m funding deed for the Logan stand-alone greyhounds facility.

The Logan site, located on the corner of Compton and Kingston Roads, is ready to go and has the strong support of the greyhound industry and the Logan City Council.

The Cronulla Park, Logan project includes a one and two-turn track, and public facilities, and will a premier greyhound racing facility for Queensland.

Limited's (RQL) project team are finalising the project consultant briefs which will be used to put together a project consultant team.

The RQL managed consultant team will then formulate the detail design and documentation for Logan facility.

RQL director of industry infrastructure Mark Snowdon said Racing Queensland recognise the importance of environmental factors for the Logan site and as such consideration will be given to these including geotechnical testing of the site in the early stages.

“During the detail design process, Racing Queensland will conduct community and stakeholder information sessions,” said Mr Snowdon.

A timeline for the Logan works should see work commence late 2012.

“Firstly the detail design and documentation is expected to take three months,” said Mr Snowdon. “Public tender for both civil and construction contracts is expected to commence mid-year, followed by site preparation work with construction to begin once the contracts are awarded.

“RQL's early indications expect a 12 to 18 month construction program with the completion of a state of the art greyhound facility, ready for racing, in the third quarter of 2013.”
