Magnificent Miata Smashes Her Rivals In 2012 Zoom Top

West Australian-superstar ($1.20) cemented her status as Australia's premier stayer with an all-theway record-breaking win in the over at on Saturday night.

Greyhound racing's version of Black Caviar jumped beautifully and gave her rivals no chance, striding to a stunning seven and three quarter-length win in 42.37. The daughter of and Winsome Bluebird carved out sectionals of 4.97, 15.79 and 29.37 – the latter two sectionals setting new records on her way to the second victory of her career.

Trainer Paul Stewart was full of praise for Miata, a winner of 20 races from just 23 starts.

“There was always a question mark over what she could do in the east, but she's ticked one of the boxes tonight which is a great relief.”

“She has been great for us and it is really good to see her bringing people out to the track. We'd really like to thank The Meadows for looking after us, even before we arrived in Victoria. It has been amazing.”

In a superb achievement, dam Winsome Bluebird has produced the last two Group 2 Zoom Top winners with winning the race in 2011.

In bringing up her 20th win, Miata pushed her prizemoney level to $199,065, a figure sure to rise in the coming weeks with the running of the Superstayers at The Meadows on March 3, worth $75,000 to the winner.
