McMahon Fined $500 For Failing To Produce Greyhound
The inquiry is notable, not just for the fact it took nearly two months to hear what should have been a fairly straightforward steward‘s inquiry, but also for the fact that is McMahon’s second offence for the same indiscretion.
The first offence from an October 2008 Sale greyhound meeting earnt McMahon a $250 fine.
GRV Stewards on the 16th May 2009 conducted an Inquiry into the non arrival of Dr Everest for its engagement in Race 1 – Bertocchi Small Goods Final at The Meadows (MGRA) meeting on 16 May, 2009.
On the night in question Dr Everest had orginally been made first reserve for the maiden race final after finishing second to Mystical Soul by 9.75 lengths in 30.08 in the heats. But Dr Everest gained a start in the maiden final when Jamie Ennis scratched Aint Workin from box six.
Dr Everest would have been the Darriman greyhound trainer’s only greyhound engaged at The Meadows meeting that night.
At the Stewards Inquiry, GRV Stewards heard evidence from the greyhound trainer, Mr. William McMahon.
After taking evidence, Stewards charged Mr. W. McMahon with breach of GAR86(o) in that he negligently failed to produce greyhound “Dr. Everest” for its engagement in Race 1 at The Meadows on 16 May, 2009.
Mr. McMahon pleaded guilty to the charge.
Stewards found Mr. W. McMahon guilty as charged and fined him the sum of $500.
Dr Everest was also stood down from racing for 28 days from when the offence occurred.
