Miata Within Grasp Of Australia’s Stakes Prizemoney Record After Bold Trease Win

Freakish Western Australian stayer claimed her fourth 1 title of 2012 with a thrilling victory in the $145,000 at Sandown Park tonight.

The $1.50 favourite began fairly but lost an early speed battle with ($4.20) as the former Tasmanian opened up a six length lead passing the post the first time.

Miata closed to within four lengths of Jethro down the back straight, and with the massive crowd cheering her on, the future Hall Of Famer swept past Jethro to claim her first win at Sandown Park since May.

He Knows Uno was gallant in third, making ground steadily on the two front runners, beaten just 3/4 of a length from taking second.

Her time of 41.79 seconds was 0.01 seconds faster than her heat win the previous week to improve her record to 34 wins from 41 starts, and take her career prize money to $551,758.

The win places Miata fourth on the greyhound prizemoney record list, just $60,000 shy of High Earner’s Australian prizemoney record of $610,070.

Speaking immediately after the race jubilant trainer was rightly impresssed by Miata’s effort, “Jethro set her a challenge and she had to dig really deep tonight and I’m just so proud of her. She’s just amazing.”

“This is a much better feeling than last time we were in a big race at Sandown (Sandown Cup) when she was beaten,” he said.

“She has won four Group 1’s this year which is incredible and they are all special in their own right but tonight was a great performance,” a jubilant Stuart said.

With the Australian prizemoney record in her sights, Stuart said plans were for Miata to return home to WA, before coming back for a tilt at the Group 1 Cup at Christmas.

Worth $75,000 to the winner, if Miata is successful in her Sale Cup campaign she will eclipse ’s prizemoney record that has stood since he took out the 2011 Group 1 Temlee.

A Sale Cup win would also undoubtedly seal Miata’s claim to greatness and place her alongside other champion Hall Of Fame greyhound bitches from years gone past such as former Australian prizemoney record holders , and Flying Amy.
