Victorian National Straight Track Champion Mile A Minute has overcome a chaotic start to the 2024 Group 3 National Straight Track Championship final at Murray Bridge to surge to the lead in the shadows of the post to win the national title.

Trained by Victorian Jackie Greenough, Mile A Minute was completely wiped out in the first few strides from the boxes when immediately went left from box six and Sheezel from box three went out.

Both Mile A Minute from box five and Zipping Gryllis from box four were inconvenienced as a result, as were the two perpetrators.

It took over 100 metres of the 350 metre straight track trip for Mile A Minute to balance up, find clear ground, and chase early leader Cash On Delivery.

Cash On Delivery was sent out to the boxes as the +150 race favourite after a chaotic week of greyhound betting on the final.

Those betting odds looked on the mark when the SA representative, Cash On Delivery, held his line from box eight and bolted to a comfortable lead with 150 metres to go in the final.

But the +220 second favourite, Mile A Minute was looming large, coming with a determined run with fellow Victorian Zipping Gryllis and NSW representative Express Ethics.

With just 10 metres to go in the $28,000 to-the-winner championship, both Express Ethics and Mile Minute collared Cash On Delivery.

Mile A Minute prevailed over Express Ethics by just 0.13 of a length in 19.17, with Cash On Delivery hanging on for third a further 0.12 of a length back, with Zipping Gryllis a close up fourth.

Mile A Minute overcomes early trouble to storm home and win the 2024 Group 3 National Straight Track Championship for Victorian trainer Jackie Greenough.

Mile A Minute took his six start straight track career record to four wins and a second placing, with all five other straight track race starts at Healesville, Victoria.

The son of Superior Panama and Medio Paso has now won 13 of his 19 career race starts, running a further four placings, and has now earned connections $55,638 in prizemoney.

Handler Brad Greenough, grandson of trainer Jackie Greenough, wasn’t surprised by the win but was happy Mile A Minute had run up to expectations, saying, “He’s demonstrated his capabilities there.

“Mile A Minute’s pace at Healesville, along with the times recorded, positioned him as a leading contender for a race like the National Straight Track Championship,” Greenough said.

Mile A Minute is out of 11-time winning dam Medio Paso, who is a daughter of Fernando Bale and Group 1 winner Chica Destacada, which in turn makes her a full blood sister to Group 1 winner Blue Moon Rising.
